  1. Team for the Para Athletics World Championships next month! https://athletics.ca/blog/2024/02/20/canadas-2024-world-para-athletics-championships-team-takes-shape/ Most notable names are Jesse Zesseu (men’s T37 long jump/discus throw) and Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Champion Greg Stewart (men’s T36 shot put, he came out of retirement recently)
  2. New SB for Oleksiak in the heats of the women’s 200m freestyle at the Canadian Open! 2:00.91, which is a pretty solid improvement (almost two and a half seconds) on her 2:03.27 registered at the TYR Pro Swim Series Westmont abou ta month ago. Hopefully she can drop more time in the final.
  3. Men’s +80kg Quotas Jonathan Healy Rafael Alba
  4. About to go 0-2 on the day, but I can’t say this wasn’t expected. So whatever.
  5. Women’s +67kg Quotas Fernanda Aguirre Arlettys Acosta
  6. Kafadar won her Olympic quota in a controversial decision yesterday, so at least it all balances out Real talk, whoever’s referring the matches here needs to be fired. They’re either corrupt or blind, because in no way was that a Guzman win. But theres been a couple of these throughout the week, so I’m not surprised.
  7. Feel like our athlete was robbed, but congrats anyways We deserve it after what happened yesterday with Kafadar.
  8. Men’s 68kg Quotas Yohandri Grandano Lucas Guzman

  14. Time for my weekly schedule, no room for track cycling, badminton, beach volleyball, sport climbing, or the TYR Pro Swim Series San Antonio. Probably no athletics either. FYI this isn’t finalized, there’s also Monte Carlo ATP tennis that I’ll watch depending on the results, GSOC Champions Cup that I’ll watch depending on which sheet is being streamed (and TSN only starts streaming it on Thursday despite it starting today), and the South Africa Swim Trials depending on if I’m awake. But with my rigorous schedule I’m not too sure about that, and even if I do have time I want to be doing other things too. April 10 2:00 AM- 3:30 AM: Tennis - ATP Monte Carlo Masters - FAA v. 15. v. should be a good one. Although I am expecting Canada to win, Sweden did take us to OT at last years World Championships (also coincidentally in the quarterfinals) before Nurse knotted in the 3-2 goal for Canada. But Svensson and Söderberg are no joke and if both catch on fire it may just result in an upset.
  16. Sitting volleyball qualification has been completed. For the women’s tournament, the qualified teams are For the men’s tournament, the qualified teams are
  17. Sitting Volleyball Final Paralympic Qualifiers Quotas Women: Men: Shoutout to on the women’s side, a phenomenal breakout tournament for them despite losing the final to Slovenia in 5 and not qualifying for the Paralympics. Wasn’t expecting them make it this far coming into the tournament, was thinking it would be either Germany or Ukraine joining Slovenia in the final, so they were punching way above their weight.
  18. Tough loss to United States in the final, going down on penalties (2-2, 5-4) but we’ve always struggled against them historically so far from surprising. Leon with two goals and a penalty shootout goal and is looking to be a major factor for the Canadian team heading into Paris. FYI, there’s no overtime at the She Believes Cup.
  19. Just noticed that World class archer Sjef van den Berg is on the Canadian staff for the Pan American Qualifier (and I’m assuming he’ll be with them for the rest of the season at the very least, but I’m not sure). Great hire.
  20. team update (April 2024) Current Quotas (1) Myles Amine - Men’s -86kg Freestyle (Wrestling) Amine goes into Paris as one of the rare medal hopes for San Marino, as he won Olympic bronze in Tokyo for San Marino’s third ever Olympic medal (and third in history, all were at Tokyo) along with another Tokyo bronze medalist Alessandra Perlii in women’s trap (shooting) assuming she can qualify. With the mixed team trap event being scratched after Tokyo and Gian Marco Bertii retiring since, no chance of them repeating their silver medal again. Ideal Quota Allocation: 6 Shooting (2) - Alessandra Perlii is in a great position to qualify through the Rankings/one of the Olympic Qualification events, and even if she doesn’t she’ll probably get the available universality quota. Also think that Manuel Mancini can secure a universality quota in men’s trap here. Swimming (2) - Men’s and women’s universality quota. For the men, Loris Bianchi in men’s 200m/400m/800m freestyle seems the most likely but we could also be seeing Gicomo Casadei in men’s 100m/200m breaststroke. On the women’s side, it’s much more simpler with Arianna Valloni expected to get universality quotas in women’s 800m/1500m freestyle. Athletics (1) - I think despite not sending her to the previous two World Championships, Alessandra Gasparelli seems like a decent bet for a universality quota in women’s 100m. Could be Francesco Sansovini in men’s 100m however.
  21. Have we gone back a year in time, or am I missing something?
  22. Men’s Medalists Gold- Santiago Arcila Silver- Nicholas D’Amour Bronze- Mario Jajarabilla
  23. Nicolas D’Amour v. Santiago Arcila for gold, and Oscar Ticas v. Mario Jajarabilla for bronze. Olympic quota places to
  24. D’Amour got a pretty close to the center 10, and Jajarabilla 9.
