  1. Masse: Not right now, no, but her early season times are very promising (58.93/58:80 in the 100m backstroke, along with 27.23 in the 50m backstroke and 2:08.44 in the 200m backstroke) for someone who usually only swims at her best during the big meets. Wouldn’t be surprised to see her put up a 58 low (or 57 low) at Trials/the Olympics after struggling with her form in the last couple of years. Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay: True, but they’re in contention. Let’s see what happens at the Canadian Olympic Trials though. Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay: United States is the favourite, but please explain to me how Australia is a lock for gold. Unless they find a breaststroker between now and Paris, they might even come under pressure for silver by Canada (quite unlikely, but it’s possible if Angus/LePage/Branton are in 1:05 low form and McKeown is on the breaststroke leg splitting 1:07). We have improved on our breaststroke leg, and Taylor Ruck has had a career resurgence which gives us a good freestyle leg. That along with a good butterfly leg (Maggie MacNeil) and a good backstroke leg (Masse) puts us above China IMO. All legs are close except backstroke (I’d say breaststroke and maybe freestyle have the advantage for China right now), which should separate the two.
  2. I’m pretty much in the unknown as well. But I saw an article on a Canadian athletics website https://runningmagazine.ca that explained that our athlete (Tristan Woodfine) competing at the Boston Marathon has to finish top five to qualify for the Olympics. I believe the same applies for all of the platinum marathons.

  5. 100 days to go until the first event begins!!
  6. Approaching 100 days to go, my predictions for Day 1 20:55: Swimming - Women’s 400m Freestyle Final - Summer McIntosh (Silver) 21:37: Swimming - Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay Final - (Bronze) Day 2 20:45: Swimming - Women’s 100m Butterfly Final - Maggie MacNeil (Silver) Day 3 17:18-17:38: Judo - Women’s 57kg - Christa Deguchi (Gold) 20:30: Swimming - Women’s 400m Individual Medley - Summer McIntosh (Gold) Bronze in the women’s 200m freestyle if she chooses to do the double. She’ll have almost an hour and a half between both so it seems doable (but she’s also probably going to be swimming a rigorous schedule so maybe she’ll skip it) Day 4 17:18-17:38: Judo - Men’s 81kg - Francois Gauthier-Drapeau (Bronze) 17:49-18:09: Judo - Women’s 63kg - Catherine Beauchemin Pinard (Silver) 20:57: Swimming - Women’s 100m Backstroke - Kylie Masse (Bronze) Day 5 20:36: Swimming - Men’s 200m Butterfly Final - Illya Kharun (Silver, behind Milak) Day 6 20:30: Swimming - Women’s 200m Butterfly Final - Summer McIntosh (Gold) Day 8 15:30: Artistic Gymnastics - Men’s Floor - Felix Dolci (Bronze) 20:30: Swimming - Men’s 100m Butterfly Final - Josh Liendo (Bronze) 20:59: Swimming - Women’s 200m Individual Medley - Summer McIntosh (Gold) 21:45: Athletics - Men’s Decathlon - Pierce LePage (Gold) Day 9 19:35: Swimming - Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay Final (Bronze) 20:30: Athletics - Men’s Hammer Throw Final - Ethan Katzberg (Silver) Day 10 21:00/22:05: 3x3 Basketball - Women’s Tournament Medal Matches (Gold) Day 11 20:00: Athletics - Women’s Hammer Throw Final - Camryn Rogers (Bronze) Day 12 20:30: Athletics - Men’s 200m Final - Andre DeGrasse (Silver) Day 13 15:00: Weightlifting - Women’s 59kg - Maude Charron (Bronze) 19:27: Track Cycling - Men’s Omnium - Dylan Bibic (Silver) 19:40: Athletics - Women’s Shot Put Final - Sarah Mitton (Bronze) 19:45: Athletics - Men’s 4x100m Relay Final - Canada (Bronze) 21:00: Beach Volleyball - Women’s Bronze Medal Match - Melissa Humana-Parades/Brandie Wilkerson (Bronze) 21:07: Taekwondo - Women’s 57kg Bronze Medal Match - Skylar Park (Bronze) Day 14 11:00: Basketball - Men’s Bronze Medal Game - Canada (Bronze) 13:50: Canoe Sprint - Women’s C1-200m - Katie Vincent (Bronze) 19:25: Athletics - Men’s 800m Final - Marco Arop (Gold) 21:23: Breaking - B-Boys - Phil Wizard (Gold) 22:34: Boxing - Women’s 75kg Gold Medal Bout - Tammara Thibeault (Gold) Left off some other medal chances, think at least one other name/team that I haven’t mentioned will make the podium. Still very optimistic with this prediction considering our best ever result is 24 medals at Tokyo (I picked 30 events for Canada to win medals in) but we have a talent in McIntosh now.
  7. Guadalajara Challenge | Guadalajara, Mexico Women’s Tournament Gold- Esmee Bobner/Zoe Verge-Depre Silver- Agatha Bednarczuk/Rebecca Silva Bronze- Heather Bansley/Sophie Bukovec With Bobner/Verge-Depre’s gold medal here, the race for Switzerland’s two Olympic spots is heating up. Did some calculations, Huberli/Brunner now lead with 7560 points (and have a finish to record), Bobner/Verge-Depre are now on 7460 points, and Mader/Verge-Depre stay on 7140 points as they had a bad week losing in the qualies. Likely will be a battle between them and the Tokyo 2020 bronze medalists Mader/Verge-Depre (Esmee’s sister) as the Olympic Ranking is very tight between the three and Huberli/Brunner still have one finish to record (while the other two are trying to replace their poor finishes). But I wouldn’t pencil in Huberli/Brunner’s qualification just yet. Men’s Tournament Gold- Trevor Crabb/Theodore Brunner Silver- Lukas Pfretzschner/Sven Winter Bronze- Evandro Goncalves/Arthur Lanci Diaz/Alayo continue on their hot streak, but fall just off the podium in 4th. Very surprising podium for Pfretzschner/Winter, if they can sustain this type of form in the upcoming months it’ll see them as one of the pairings in contention for an Olympic spot through the European Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament. Full Results Short turnaround between tournaments, because up next we have the Tepic Elite16 from April 17-20!
  8. @mrv86 how was it?
  9. I know you’re sad about the final result especially against an extremely winnable opponent in Azerbaijan, but Poland making the final (and defeating a quality team in Netherlands) was a great result for them, they performed well above their level throughout the entire tournament. Chin up, they’re in with a chance at the future OQTs! P.S you’re not alone, us Canadians have had countless frustrating results during the Olympic qualifying period, so I feel for you. If only I was from Spain… they’ve been qualifying in everything so far
  10. GOLD FOR CANADA AT THE WOMEN’S HOCKEY WORLDS!! GOLD FOR CANADA AT THE WOMEN’S HOCKEY WORLDS!! GOLD FOR CANADA AT THE WOMEN’S HOCKEY WORLDS!! In a game that pretty much had it all, Canada defeats United States 6-5 to win gold!! They get their revenge on the United States after losing in the gold medal match (who else but Hilary Knight with the goal?) on home soil during last years World Championships, to defeating them as hosts this year. Danielle Serdachny with the game winning goal in OT, after a Canadian powerplay was awarded after too many Americans were on the ice. Shoutout to (defender) Ella Shelton as well, she had an incredible save on a potential gold medal winning goal in the closing stages of the 3rd period.
  11. Here’s the Serdachny goal for anyone that missed it.
  12. GOLD FOR CANADAAAAAAAAA!!! Danielle Serdachny scores the power play game winning goal in OT!! Feels great to get revenge over our rivals after last years gold medal match.
  13. And we’re going to OT! Always a good rivalry between these two teams.
  14. Shelton with an incredible save on a potential gold medal winning goal
  15. Caroline Harvey scores with five minutes left… Tied 5-5 between and
  16. Just realized where it was held never mind
  17. WAIT A MINUTE. IF IM NOT WRONG… THATS A NEW WR?
  18. Bronze for Sophie Bukovec/Heather Bansley at the Guadalajara Challenge! Lost an extremely tight match to Swiss #3 Bobner/Verge Depre in the semifinals (they’re still a really good team, so this was far from a bad result) with the third set going to overtime, and eventually finishing 20-18 in favor of them. Rebounded in the bronze medal match however, defeating Ittlinger/Borger 2-0 and a dominant second set (21-14) at that.
  19. GSOC Players Championship | Toronto, Ontario, Canada I’ve been kind of slacking with the curling updates lately my fault. Men 1. Team Gushue 2. Team Retornaz 3. Team Mouat 3. Team McEwen @Gianlu33 What a class act Retornaz is. After the the final was over, he tipped his hat to Gushue. Wasn’t one of my favourite curlers before today, but he’s grown on me a lot with that gesture. Women 1. Team Tirinzoni 2. Team Wrana 3. Team Homan 3. Team Gim A Players Championship title still eludes Homan, but still another solid week for the team. Full Results
  20. Team Tirinzoni and Team Gushue are the men’s and women’s champions at the GSOC Players Championship!
  21. For us it’ll be second gold medal winner that would be our 150th gold at the Olympics. I’ll share my day-by-day predictions including by medal colour later.
  22. No mention for your beach volleyball athletes? I think you have a good chance at a medal in either the men’s or the women’s tournaments.
