I put a lot of research towards Olsbu and I have her in gold for the mass start too, sooooo let's hope for the best :d

Funnily enough, I did not place the Norwegian women relay on the podium at all aaaand I think I believed too much in Makarainen yet again, I never learn.

Olsbu is actually a very safe pick for a medal. I ruled Tandrevold out. The biggest crapshoot are the French women IMO. I have Braisaz winning one medal. Let's see how that goes. I gave up on Makarainen here, no medals in my picks. And always a good bet for Oeberg in the individual

I don't even know why I went for Eckhoff pursuit gold, honestly.

I didn't feel like she's gonna do that great here and I should have went with my gut feeling.

But it's still not as bad as my last years' "Johannes is not going to be on the podium in the sprint or pursuit, because he never performs too well in Ostersund "

I kinda envisioned Italians flopping more than Norwegians (as in no gold medals for the hosts) :p   I picked Olsbu to win the mass start so she better keeps this up for the second week

Meh, although I understand that we can't have high expectations for Colombia to switch to the ice, the current situation of France's speed skating is ludicrous :wall:

A country that organized three Winter OG and have such a strong tradition of in-line skating can't settle for one athlete to emerge every now and then thanks to his own will and efforts ...

This federation is a terrible mess ...

What are the three most popular countries for inline skating? Italy, Netherlands and Belgium? Given how Italy tends to produce some world class skaters (mainly in short track these days) I suppose France is really behind the eightball. I don't recall any world class skater on the long track in the XXI century and even your short track team is not as impressive as it could have been.

Thing is, as we in Britain have shown in skeleton, nations that do not have a track can sometimes over-perform at the Olympics, because they are more used to learning unfamiliar tracks.

What helps British skeleton is the fact the country itself is basically non-existent in winter sports. Therefore it's easier to get some funding if you show just the smallest hint of potential. It's completely different in summer sports, even in core UK events like athletics or cycling where pretty good athletes are left out in the cold because they are "too old" at age 26 or a Top 6 result is considered "below par". Anyone from UK who gets a Top 10 in winter sport is probably considered a big talent though I read about some issues for the bobsleigh team last year?

  5. Several of the big guns missing a ton of targets contributed to some second tier athletes overperforming.

Sadly that wasn't the case for Kamila Zuk who missed four in the prone before going clear in the stands. One of these days she will hit 10/10.

Btw, Tomasz Sikora said yesterday Olsbu had her rifle repaired before the WChamps since somtething was wrong with it. Guess whatever they did, it worked pretty well :p
