Sorry but I will be very annoyed if Rybakina wins bronze over Svitolina. I hate when countries like Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkey buy athletes and then win medals. I think it is totally against the Olympic spirit if you don't have connections to a country other than money.
This isn't any different than Johanna Konta switching over to UK or Ajla Tomljanovic representing Australia. They were simply offered better financial support in a sport which is very expensive until you reach a certain level of success.

The bet says medalists in individual events though
So team sports and team events in general don't count.
I suggested "Japan wins 7 golds in Judo" but Wumo for some reason changed it to just 7 medals, which is an obvious yes.
Wut? Did I misread the bet question then? In this case it's Allyson Felix or McLain Ward or bust?
-
Admittedly I lost track of the
golds in judo but yeah, it was always more than 10. That was one of the easier 'YES' bets.
Medallists from 2004 Athens games should also be an easy 'YES' even if someone only counted for Allyson Felix as the most obvious name. Zagunis, Cassara in team fencing and the immortal Formiga in women's football still viable options to choose from

Bet Contest questions answered YES already:
Medal for
(in taekwondo in case someone missed it)
At least one nation wins their first medal ever (we have
&
)
Both tennis questions also 'YES'
Gold medal winner in singles event will be a non-GS winner (Bencic or Vondrousova in women's)
One player will win two medals in singles & doubles/mixed (Bencic, could be joined by either Djokovic or Khachanov or both)
-
Bencic is also in the doubles final w/Golubic. However they will be total outsiders against Krejcikova/Siniakova (whom I picked to win doubles in predictions myself).
Also for the bet contest - anyone who picked a player wins two medals in tennis can cash out already (however even I didn't expect Bencic will be that player
).

Yeah, i remember Douglas was Biles, before Biles came around. They promoted the heck out of her in London as the next coming of God. Too bad for her that Biles started in the next cycle and made her a substitute more or less in Rio. Otherwise she would have been their top dog again.
Also with NBC's aggressive, constant promotion of women's gymnastics in their marketing campaigns , pretty much all of them became household names to some extent. All the way back to Shawn Johnson, Nastia Lyukin, Ally Raisman, Douglas, Maroney, Laurie Hernandez. They don't know who Mariel Zagunis or Vincent Hancock or Brady Ellison are, but they do know their gymnastics team.
I believe the Douglas hype didn't become real until Wieber got ousted in AA qualifying which was the major shock. It was expected that Raisman & Douglas will battle for that second AA finals spot but Wieber was supposed to be a lock IIRC? And yeah, Douglas in Rio was a complete wash, it was all Biles back then.

She's not going to repeat. I'm willing to bet a ton of money she won't repeat.
So what?
So it's all gonna be about Simone Biles again. A rare occurance when Olympic champion will still be overshadowed by another teammate.

Again, she gets to win an Olympic title she never expected to be able to win. How disappointing.
I didn't say it was disappointing either. That's strike two!
I wouldn't bet 5 cents she repeats this result in Paris no matter what NBC hype does.

Oh no, she only gets to win a gold medal she never expected to win. How tragic.
I didn't say it was tragic. This title will forever be remembered as the Biles mental health WD. And Lee stands no chance of ever topping Biles' marketing craze in USA. Not in a million years IMO.

I'm sure she'll be more than happy with being all around Olympic champion once.
Yeah, Gabby Douglas was one too and she fizzled out into irrelevance real fast. Lee will forever be regarded as the champion when Biles pulled out and I don't see her repeating this feat in Paris at all.

Amazing win for
Lee
She only won due to Andrade's second error. This is very lucky win indeed. Not the next Biles-like dominator at all.
-
Yep, if she only stepped once she would have won gold. Massive choke this is.
-
Stepped out of bounds twice. What a choke
