They have published the new world ranking, but not Olympic ranking, which is actually identical , but you would have to do quota calculations on your own or wait until Wednesday 18 CET ?

I have checked the world rankings and I think I haven't made any errors in my previous calculations. Which means that these should be the world quotas.

I tried to calculate the European quotas. There are many ways I could have messed this up, so don't think that this is an official confirmation.

:BEL  w70 - 2915 - #1 female European quota

:ITA  m90 - 2875 - #1 male European quota

:GRE  w70 - 2842 - #2 female European quota

:ISR  m90 - 2837 - #2 male European quota

:GBR  w57 - 2778 - #3 female European quota

:FRA  m73 - 2694 - #3 male European quota

:CZE  m90 - 2518 - #4 male European quota

:UKR  m90 - 2495 - #5 male European quota

:SWE  m81 - 2417 - #6 male European quota

:ROU  m73 - 2339 - #7 male European quota

:NED  w57 - 2337 - #4 female European quota

:GER  w78+ - 2326 - #5 female European quota

:BLR  m100 - 2247 - #8 male European quota

:LAT  m100 - 2244 - #9 male European quota

:HUN  m100 - 2190 - #10 male European quota

:TUR  m60 - 2157 - #11 male European quota

:ARM  m73 - 2148 - #12 male European quota

:POL  m90 - 2103 - #13 male European quota

At this point we have reached the limit for male European quotas (13).

:AUT  w57 - 1985 - #6 female European quota

:SRB  w63 - 1872 - #7 female European quota

:LTU  w78+ - 1825 - #8 female European quota

:GEO  w52 - 1786 - #9 female European quota

:AZE  w48 - 1753 - #10 female European quota

:ESP  w63 - 1712 - #11 female European quota

:DEN  w63 - 1688 - #12 female European quota

I think you are right with female quotas. Only  GBR quota will go to +78kg as the other lady is injured. Croatia first below line ??

i think there will be reallocation due to Oceania, probably to Italy

Ya, I definitively understand how bitter this must feel. She sacrificed quite a bit to represent Canada specifically to compete in Tokyo. I don’t think Klimkait would have had much of a chance under the original selection plan.

However, ultimately, how do you not send the defending world champion when worlds were less than two months before the Olympics?

It just really sucks that Canada has two world champions *ever* in Judo and they fight in the same weight class and are one year apart.

Sorry for the bump ...

But this kind of comment makes me piss off ... Dechuchi didn't sacrifice anything, she even got alot exemptions from Judo Canada. She has nothing Canadian in her, except her father. FIY it is her fault that the selection policy has changed, because she trains and is based in Japan. Judo Canada asked Deguchi to come to Canada right after the Antalya GS, so that they could both do the quarantine and preparation time.

And ... she refused, and Judo Canada proposed to both of them to use the World Championships as a qualifying event, both accept ...

And the fact, the Deguchi's level is not top this year, his defeat against Eteri Liparteliani at GS Tbilisi year had put me in doubt about his level and not sure Deguchi would have won the 2 of 3, the last fight between the two is a DQ for Klimkait...

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
