A circular from FISA states that Varese :ITA will host the European Olympic qualification regatta from 27 to 29 April 2020

based on the rules, countries with 2 quotas or more can't participate in the Continental qualification event. what's the point of hosting the event for Italy when they can't even participate ?! :mumble:

first of all, there are financial reasons...the local organizers get support from both WorldRowing and the Italian Federation and, more than that, they look for fans/tourists to come and spend money...

then, it's a prestige question for the local club...

finally, Varese is one of the main training centers for the non-European Nations (especially Australia spend always many months a year to train in the Northern Emisphere summer, they have an official base there...and not only for Rowing, but for most summer sports...moreover, the WorldRowing program for developing Nations is based there and the director of that program is an Italian coach -who also coaches Serbia and Lithuania atm), which makes it one of the preferred places to host regatta not only by the Italian federation, but alsoby WorldRowing themselves...

    • I still shocks, that a country of 4-5 million inhabitants? can be a powerhouse in almost every winter sport + handball, football (most recently with Haaland) and athletics: Ingebrigtsen, Warholm, etc. With such a small population, they can't be missing out on any major talent, surely? This must be the best training system in the world...
    • FIFA announced the stadium and time for each match   for  Iran, it will be 2 matches in LA (and not just 1) and 1 in Seattle and luckily we avoided playing in Canada. absolutely nothing against the country, but there are just too many douchebag Iranian groups in Vancouver trying to mix everything with their stupid politics. it's better to stay away from them.   that can happen in US too but less likely. playing in LA is more like playing at home, at least I hope so. 2022 Qatar was a disaster from our point of view, hopefully this one remains only about football.
