Artistic Gymnastics Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

What about Indian chances????

At this point, zero, unfortunately. If the Asian Championships indeed take place, then chances would be very low, but still better than zero, of course.

The problem is that continental championships qualify gymnasts through the all-around, and India has always been a country focused on apparatus specialists. So, India's best chance was the World Cup series, but apparently Dipa Karmakar got injured and no other Indian gymnast was prepared to challenge for a stop in the top 10, so no chance this year, unfortunately.

So has Pranati Nayak qualified due to cancelation of Asian Artistic Championships?

https://www.espn.in/olympics/story/_/id/31370238/gymnast-pranati-nayak-compete-tokyo-olympics-winning-asian-quota

I believe she hasn't. Per official FIG rules:

image.png

"NOC without a qualified team" is not the same as "NOCs not yet qualified". So, even if nations have qualified one gymnast through the all-around competition, they should be able to qualify another gymnast thanks to the cancellation of the Asian Championships. Per these rules, quota places go to :KOR and :PRK, and since :PRK is already out, the quota would go to :MAS.

:SRI and :IND would only qualify if the quotas were supposed to be awarded to NOCs not yet qualified.

This is the list of gymnasts not yet qualified based on their all-around results from the 2019 World Championships. Gymnasts in bold are from Asia. Gymnasts from :KOR, :PRK and :MAS are ahead of :SRI and :IND.

Well, the IOC is not running the FIG's qualification process.

Plus this article (written by an Indian journalist) seems to be a re-post of unconfirmed claims, and not some original, genuine content?

This is... What... I'm speechless.

Look at the mess FIG has created with this convoluted, good for nothing process. If this is the case, then other nations should claim that ROC and Turkey cannot qualify extra male gymnasts at the Euros, because this would have been unfair compared to the options they gave to Asia.

FIG has to clear this up ASAP.

I have very low opinion of Indian journalists (specially sports one) but in this case, if even IOC is fooled by their wrong interpretation, they deserve respect and IOC/FIG should be ashamed.

How hard is it for FIG to issue a simple statement declaring if Asian Championships are cancelled or not and if they are cancelled who all qualified?
