Tim Merlier takes the win in his first ever GT stage, of all days he does it exactly ten years after the death of fellow Belgian sprinter Wouter Weylandt.

He had already shown to be one of the very best sprinters in the world in terms of pure speed, but this was impressive

Nearly a bad fall for Gaviria, luckily organizers here do know how to set up the boarding. Giacomo Nizzolo, in his 8th Giro, just comes up short for the win...his 10th second place, still no wins. The rest was basically nowhere to be seen, apart from Sagan a kilometer or so earlier when giving some hits and Ewan because he failed so badly it was noteworthy :p

Today could actually be pretty interesting. This, and a whole lot of rain:

Should be an excellent chance for someone like Sagan, if he is in decent enough shape to survive the climbs, which the likes of Merlier, Groenewegen, Viviani, Gaviria and Ewan most likely won't. Sagan, Ulissi, Bevin, those kind of riders.

Nizzolo is a fucking genius :p

To give some context to non-Italians, for months and months we needed a self-certification to leave the house for serious emergencies (you know, covid restrictions)

a genius does not need to read manual to know how to wear a mask  :d

And if I'm not mistaken, he gave 'Winning stages' (or something similar) as reason, with 'winning the GC' being an option as well but he didn't find that very realistic

Ewan could feature today. Obviously Lotto messed up hugely yesterday but today's parcours isn't as difficult as Milan San Remo and he nearly won there.

Sagan still the favourite of course, but I wouldn't discount Ewan
