Awful.

Kasheer was NOT allowed to be competed this weekend (mandatory rest period of 10 days). Curious how Usman Khan started ignoring this mandatory rest rule only after his qualification became mathematically impossible. I'm sure he knew exactly what he was doing.

FEI takes equal blame, as they were supposed to monitor all entries "for the welfare of the horse" (their own words).

Hopefully a lengthy ban coming for the Pakistani rider (and this Frederique Reffet person).

What a mess.

I read there was no safety pin system which contributed to the accident. The horse tragically broke his neck after hitting the fence.

I don't understand equestrian much but aren't there safety measures in these events

Thanks. What a bizarre article.

Khan critically injured? But discharged from the hospital on the same day? Though, judging by some of his statements in this article, he should have been held for further examinations...

Even if he finished though, he still would not have qualified as he was in breach of the rules by competing at consecutive weekends. I am sure he was well aware of that, but tried to cheat his way anyway and hope nobody would notice.

p.s. Safety pins are still a developing technology. They are widespread at higher level events, but not so much at smaller shows like Naracoorte. They are designed to prevent the rotational falls, which have been the cause of most tragic accidents (like indeed this one).

p.p.s. Even still, per rules, Kasheer was not allowed to start cross-country this weekend. Mandatory rest rules are there exactly to prevent desperate qualifying attempts. Someone should be held responsible. It was easily preventable.

I don’t think Khan thought no one would notice. It must be more of a case of him trying to play victim by claiming later that FEI prevented him from going to Olympics on a technicality.

Host organisers, FEI and Khan all have to share the blame. Most likely Khan would be banned for some time. FEI  would impose some fine on organisers but who would punish FEI?

That is certainly possible as well. He seems to be selling a lot of information to Pakistani people anyway.

But I don't think blame should be put on the event organizers (unless they failed to inform FEI of the entries, entered Khan on their own discretion, or something of that sort).

Just running an event is challenging enough without keeping tabs on the background of each athlete. Especially since FEI took it upon themselves to monitor entries at higher levels and inform all parties concerned (according to that document).

This man is cuckoo pants. Apparently he now hopes to catch (i.e. acquire, lease or borrow) a 4*-ready horse and qualify last minute. :hairpull:

https://www.geosuper.tv/amp/8613-im-alive-and-so-is-pakistans-olympic-dream-says-injured-usman-khan

Luckily, this is all just nonsense talk...

First things first. Nationality transfer period for horses ended on January 15th. So, unless there was a Pakistani-owned, 4*-ready horse just lying around this whole time (answer: there is not), it's over...

And even if the whole nationality thing was in order... He would basically need to start in Europe next week (Houghton Hall or Baborowko), and then rush to Melbourne for the long format two weeks later... Pretty sure the entries are closed for next week, and quarantine laws would make competing in Melbourne impossible...

Quintessential case of a small time athlete from a marginal sport deceiving his country's media.

Sadly, :ZIM Camilla Kruger is still not appearing on entry lists for the forthcoming events. It's probably some injury, so I'm afraid no Tokyo for her. :(

Same goes for :CHI Carlos Lobos, but that was to be expected with the events in Quillota not getting approved.

Therefore, more likely than not, :ECU Ecuador and :AUT Austria will be stepping in for reallocations...

Short-list for the :GBR British eventing team... Really curious how nobody got listed with more than one horse (except Townend, potentially).

Anyway, good luck to anyone trying to select the best 3 out of these. My feeling is that, since there are too many contenders, the final selection will certainly be 'wrong'.

Looking at the events to come, I don't think :UKR Oleksandr Prodan will be competing anywhere before Babolna CSI-W (10-13 June) and probably Olomouc CSI-W (17-20 June), just before the cut-off date.

At any rate, neither him nor any other Ukrainian rider are entered to compete this week. Same goes for the next week, for now...

In eventing, this week's competition in Baborowko will probably decide everything... Especially since :ZIM Camilla Kruger is nowhere to be seen (and the odds of her reappearance are becoming increasingly unlikely by the day...).

As for dressage, :BER Collins had a shockingly poor weekend competition in Portugal. No MER, sadly. Back to the drawing board before Ornago (June 3-6).

    • Considering our best players were completely blocked by Denmark, I think it was a good first half.    12-15  HT
    • There must be something rotten in the NOC, with all these athletes retiring earlier than expected right before the Olympics (and also Braathen taking a year off to switch to )   Edit: also means that Riiber will retire without an Olympic gold, which just doesn't feel right at all :<
    • This is written based on criteria applied to all National Olympic Committees (NOCs) with at least one male or female athlete who has a minimum FIS point of less than 120 for slalom (SL) and giant slalom (GS), or less than 80 for other events
    • It's a shame, because the rest of the team has a lot of quality. Yesterday, I haven't seen France play such an uncreative game in a long time. The plays were always the same, through the center, but it seemed like the goalkeeper was always caught off guard. With a good goalkeeper, you could have easily won the match.
    • Jarl Magnus Riiber announced that he will retire at the end of the season
    • Epp Mae Women 76 kg Wrestler announced retirement. 1 silver and 3 bronze in world championships.
    • This is a very good question, and the simple answer is ..YES ..they always like that and even the old GK legends (Elrouby, Elnakeeb, Ayman Salah..etc) they were below average worldwide (locally they were the greatest) … the main question is …why? I am an ex-handball GK in Egypt and later played also in England for Reading Lions handball club, so what I am going to say about Egyptian GKs are not speculations but that was our real life and still.   Why I was a GK ..simply because I was left wing number 3 in the team, and by luck during some cooling break I was playing shot out with friend and saved all, then the coach decided to keep me in goal for this training session ..then forever. You are not good enough as a player, you are very slow, you are very fat, you are not talented those are the main reasons in why a person becomes handball GK.  Since I was 8 till 23 yrs old when I stopped playing  in  for work reasons I (we) never ever had a specialised GK coach!! ..even the special training to improve our skills was usually ruined by players when the coach is focusing how they are not scoring more than focus on our movements and style. Handball GKs usually memorised the players, those players I am playing with them in the training or even the opponents I see them 4-5 times every season, I perfectly memorise their movements and shots, but that shouldn’t be your normal style, you should have plans for unknown players, how to block the angles, how to synchronise with the block to get one side and to let them block the other side, when you block the close angle and leave the wide one and vice versa. When I was in England (which is not a strong or even average team), all GKs went to GK workshop with whom?? Omeyer ..the legend French handball GK .. I was listening to some advices which I never heard about in my life. Where was that when I was young and able to improve, unfortunately nothing.   Sorry for talking to much but I am really disappointed and I know    will never win a major title or medal without a good GK ..imagine if Egypt in Olympics or last 3 Wch has Landin or De Vargas or Wolff …at least would  be on the podium couple of times.
    • in 2021  team was very promising I was expecting to perform better in 2023 but they did almost similar (even the game was at home) ... but this year was the biggest shocking surprise for me, don't know why they are so slow and very heavy on the field.
    • thriller and excitement night for all handball fans except  and   QF results yesterday:  VS   31-30, incredible game with both teams swap leading the results, both keepers were the reason of their team leading, some great saves from   GK Bartucz make  lead, then few brilliant sves from  GK Kuzmanovic bring them back on to draw then the lead. But the most interesting part when it was 26-30 for  with 5 minutes to go when  coach decided to put the 35 yrs old experienced GK Pesic into the field, he managed to save all shots on him in the last 5 min. with very good attack from  players and the cherry on the top when Sipic scored at 59:59 the winning goal and made the hall shaking and supporters going mad. very sorry for  who did a great effort and ended the night by a nightmare.     VS  34-33, do you think the previous game was the ultimate drama? ..no ..this was even more thriller,  was leading the game from beginning and the score was 18-14 in the first half, early in 2nd half the score difference became 5 for  but slowly slowly  managed to close the gap (thanks to attacking tactic playing with 7 players and an empty goal), last couple of minutes were amazing for handball fans, it reached 32-30 for  then  managed to draw and then 33-32 for  again, the Yaya scored when it was 59:57 (only 3 sec to final whistle) with very fast start from Karabatic they managed to score which has been rejected by  team but the video ref proved the ball was in at 59:59.97 ..only 0.03 sec destroyed the Egyptian dream in unbelievable Hitchcock scenario.   Lesson learned for  (I hope it's learned), you can't compete with below average GK ..and fair selection of players is a key of success.      today's matches:  VS  VS
