Athletics Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

Recommended Posts

First of all, thanks to all the users who are so kind to update on new qualified athletes. It's very much appreciated. :)

Just a small message to all who haven't noticed it yet.

Some weeks ago I posted this:

I will create one post for every week and update it with new qualified athletes as they qualify in that week.

Example :

Update  - Week 20 - May 13 to May 19 -  2019

You can search for the week number or days in that week and get an overview of that week's qualified athletes.

I will also make a separate post for Diamond League events.

The post will contain the words "DL, the name of the host city and year"

Example:

DL Shanghai 2019

I have now put this message in the first posts with the total qualified male and female athletes. This way I hope more users and guests on the forum becomes aware of this option.

Link to the first posts (Just click on "Men" if you want to see the total quota of qualified male athletes. You can do the same for female athletes):

Where did you get that information? On the IAAF website it says that his best time before this year was 1:20.51, which would mean that he improved his PB by more than 3 minutes. Did he already go faster than that before last weekend? In the end it doesn't really matter whether he improved his PB by 3 minutes or "only" 2 minutes and 34 seconds. Taking such a huge chunk off your PB in one single race at the age of 27 when you were already close to world class before that is very suspicious in my book.

For reference: A guy improving from 1:20 to 1:17 is roughly equivalent to a woman improving from 11 seconds to 10,6 seconds in the 100 m sprint. If a woman would do that (especially at the age of 27) there would be no doubt in most peoples mind that something fishy was going on.

my mistake...I read his previous PB on the Italian Federation's website as 1.20.19, meanwhile the IAAF's site is the correct one...

however, you're also right when you say that improving 2 and a half minutes or 3 minutes is roughly the same...

the only thing I can say, it's that he's 27, but, as often happens with our athletes, he's athletically a lot younger than that...he started to be a professional only about 3 years ago, so I guess there's still some margin in cases like that...

however, if there's something wrong with him, only time will tell...especially for what concerns certain disciplines, I don't trust anybody anymore...I only take notice of what happens (still, I enjoy watching the competitions, doped atheltes or not it doesn't really matter...if everybody starts on the same line...you know what I mean)...

Link to the result page for the Turku Meeting: http://live.time4results.com/yu/2019/png/

Christoph Harting :GER 66,01m in Discus Throw

I think this is the only new standard so far, given that Zhu Yaming :CHN had too much tail wind in Triple Jump.

Edit: Now Zhu Yaming jumped 17,21m With regular wind. :)

    • There were lots of good moments , this olympics felt so special (I am talking of WOG). The last time I really enjoyed viewing WOG was in Sochi & this tops it. So many feel good moments, very well attended event with spectators filling up stands & making an atmosphere. So many top performances, but for me the  women team dominating the Biathlon event was really special. All 3 of them were just so good & gave top performance. I love it how the female commentator pronounced  Lou Jeanmonnot  & finally grazie mille  we loved it! Thanks for making me fall in love with winter sports again
    • I'm surprised that some Hungarians here are interested in some Nazis in Kiev, instead of their country's economic decline over the last 15-20 years, falling under Romania's level of GDP, when around 2000 it was the richest country in the all former post-communist region. But I understand that this is Orban's tactic to continue ruling and stealing the country, to distract from truly important matters and focus on trivial matters. Clinton's campaign slogan in the USA many years ago: "The economy, stupid!" I think that the current opposition leader in HUN should probably do the same- just do your thing and let Orban himself with all of this Soros, Nazis, etc, only the Martians are still missing in this madness, but that may come to pass
    • I found Condor really nice. I did upgrade myself, so maybe thats why. I would fly them again
    • So, wanted to update on this now that I’m back home in Seattle to say I had a really good time in Milan. I ended up not going to events outside of Milan (I went to short track, speed skating and hockey), and it was probably a good decision to keep things simple for my first Olympics.   Getting around in Milan was a breeze, and I feel things were pretty well organized at the venues (though the ice hockey venue definitively could have used a couple more weeks of work). I was especially pleased with the speed skating venue, given it’s a temporary track it looked really good once you were actually in your seat and things were well organized for spectators (even though it was a looooong walk to and from the train station).   So ya, happy with the experience, as a newbie to both attending the Olympics and traveling in Europe. Def made me want to attend the French Alps in 2030 (and subject them to my horrible-for-a-native French accent xD )   Thanks to  for being good hosts.   As an aside, I now understand why people dislike British Airways, and Condor was surprisingly okay, though it was definitively a "you get what you paid for" situation (flew SEA-LHR to get to Europe and FRA-SEA on the way back).
    • Hello everyone, and yes, on the road to LA28! I’m sure there will be some great discussions here.   I made a profile here four years ago and now I’ve finally become active   Better late than never.
