Well, finally we will go to Europe, basically to Spain, France, England and Italy.

Tips/recomendations of places to visit or things to do?

Somebody can say something to this :p

I've been to Spain but when I was about 6 months old so I don't remember it. But, I' went to Italy about 3 years ago and loved it! I'm not sure where your going in Italy but assuming your going to Rome some of my favorite things I did was obviously get some gelato, visit Vatican City, and overall just enjoy and soak in all the amazing architecture (we don't have much here in the US). I'm not sure how set in stone your trip is but if you get the chance the country side is absolutely stunning and there are some amazing pizza places all throughout! Not sure if this was any help but I hope you have a fun time and I'm going to France in February (school trip) so I might need some advice from you on what to expect!

Rome and Venice are very touristical city, there are hundreds of things to see in Rome, non that much in Venice. The only suggestion I can give you is to be careful of traps for tourists such as bars or restaurants in the main squares of the cities. A bottle of water or a coffee which normally cost 1 euro may cost even up to 3/4 euro there and you feel horrible when they just want to steal you money because you are a tourist. I know sometimes is not that easy, but try to buy things in supermarkets and try not to have lunch/dinner in the very centre of the city.

With Tripadvisor you can easily find the names of restaurants with a good ration of quality/price, and you absolutely have to try a "carbonara" in Rome. As for the pizza, it's better if you eat it in Rome rather than Venice.

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
