Men's Handball IHF Olympic Games Qualification Tournaments 2021

Recommended Posts

oh man, what a drama. I'm happy for Portugal but that was a VERY cruel way for Croatia to lose the quota. France had 3 goals lead in last 4-5 minutes ...

OMG so deserved after the death of their Goalkeeper! I'm so happy for them.

Dramatic finish but specially deserved after bad judge decisions against Croatia!

This is the official death of croatian handball. All of the players that could give us at least 5 more years will retire and the new generations have no leaders. Probaby never gonna see olympics again. Two-time olympic champions - signing out!

I think this is the first time ever that the Olympic men's handball tournament won't have a single Slavic nation (unless we count the 1936 tournament).

This is quickly turning into a dumpster fire...

Just for some perspective, we were already at a point where our NOC simply stopped (!) sending athletes to qualification events (table tennis, wrestling).

And now, after losing a seemingly safe qualification, I can't even imagine what will the consequences be.

Well, it wouldn't have come as a surprise, hadn't I seen France leading 28-25 four minutes or so before finish. To be eliminated this way really hurts.

We were probably also a victim of the schedule, but that happens in sport. Congratulations to Portugal.

One should have expected this outcome, whenever France and Portugal are involved, it doesn't end good for us.

Where do you have this information from? Something confirmed or you just assume?

Given how unusual it is and that it involves two different federations, it seems like a fair assumption...

    • I think the reason is that it's generally preferable to have a fast shooter in the 1st leg, and especially in the prone shooting, where Hofer is quite slow.   Now, I'm not saying I agree with the choice, because I don't. I think it's going to neutralize Giacomel's skiing skills in the 1st lap at least.   I guess the idea is to try and set a very fast pace in the 1st leg, which is usually quite tactical, but I'm afraid that's going to force Giacomel to risk too much because he will feel he has to make some time somehow.   Regardless, Italy must be on the podium tomorrow. I think that would be crucial for the following races as well. I think France is the clear favorite, but the other teams are not stronger than Italy on paper.
