No issues with me...We Indians never improve from mistakes. So let it be...Anyways there is no chances for medals even if Paes/ Rohan plays so It doesn't hurt me who goes and plays. I just wanted to say lets go ahead and see other things. But we Indians love to carry the legacy history and get hit and then cry foul and say dint happen. see the other countries take risk and see the results. We don't take risk and we are hit.

Please note :- I am not against any Indian players. I have seen the dedication of all players towards the country in their earnest ways. So lets stop this topic here and move ahead...

Tokyo - 2020

Go India Go

Winning all the recent mixed doubles title in grand slams is not history but current affairs.

What a big unnecessary shit! Leander had already played 3 Olympic Games with a medal even before this man turned pro!

It is so shameful to see such a mediocre player deliberately blocking roads for a legend to represent his country in his record 7th Olympics.

Let him go with Saketh. They will crash out in first couple of rounds. AITA now should manage a tripartite invitational quota for Leander with Divij Sharan or some other player and teach this Bopanna guy a lesson!

Leander deserves to go to Olympics not only because he is a legend but also because he is performing as good as Bopanna on circuit. In fact better than him at times, at the age of 43!

This mediocre player is not blocking anyone's road to Olympics but legend is dependent on the mediocre player to reach Olympics. If you remember, the legend created such a big fuss at last Olympic demanding to be paired with the same mediocre player. Also, Leander is not performing at the same level as Bopanna on circuit. If that was the case, Leander would not have been 30 places behind Bopanna.

Leander has to share the blame for the way Indian tennis is divided in camps. Paes and Bhupathi are tremendous players who have always played better representing India (compared to ATP circuit) but their ego has taken its toll on the sport as well. Paes/Bhupathi along with their fathers made such a farce in last Olympics. The way both camps treated each other and Sania Mirza was really sad.

Bopanna knows that he has to partner Paes but he is just taking a leaf out of Paes' handbook and is ensuring that he gets to partner Hingis and not Paes. (IMHO for Mixed Doubles, Mirza should have complete freedom to chose her partner. She has earned it).

sorry to say that the two situations are not the same. in 2012 leander was the top ranked indian player in MD and he wanted to form the bets team by teaming up with bopanna or bhupathi who were the next best players.how is that an unfair demand? it was they who had ganged up against him to prevent india from fielding its best possible MD team. the result was for all to see. so its completely incorrect to blame paes for this fiasco. i will agree AITA messed up the situation last time by using sania as a bait for paes to give up his claim on bopanna for MD. and the difference in ranking is due to paes' injuries also -its not as if bopanna is setting the circuit on fire. and if you consider rankings -how come saketh is preferred over leander? nobody should have complete freedom - personal choice cannot trump national interest. sania can play with whoever she wants in the circuit. In the olympics - it has to be in consultation over AITA

We can have fans of legends, but when we talk about current men's doubles, Rohan currently is ranked 10 and he has the right to choose his partner as per the rules, it's as simple as that, similarly Mirza is World No. 1 and has the right to choose her partner, what is the fuss all about? I have a simple question why is Leander not even near top 10 in rankings, he knew the Olympics is scheduled this year and the Men's Doubles ranking would matter?

it was due to his poor form but also due to his injuries due to which he had to skip tournaments. but he has shown that he is not finished by winning the XD at the French Open. Rankings once had Serena near 100 after a long injury lay off - did that mean she suddenly became that poor a player? rankings have to be taken in context. like I said - we are choosing partners for the national team for the Olympics - not for a ball room dance that friendships business interests and camps will trump national interest.

So let's wait and let AITA decide on it, anyway with Sania there is a genuine problem with both being forehand players, unlike Hingis who has a killer back-hand. Let's move ahead, big week, lots to discuss.

Just for a start what about our mid-field today without Sardar against the German mid-field? Would like to hear from you guys on this topic.

    • I love that it is more straightforward in relation to the number of quotas and does not allow possible problems as it was in Tokyo and Paris.
    • I love the judo qualification system, for me is the best in all disciplines. It combines a strong circuit, and it allows 100 or so countries to participate in.   So, maybe, if UWW does its job properly, it will be a good thing.
    • China Media Group (CMG) will broadcast all 116 gold medal events of the Milan Winter Olympics live on CCTV-1, CCTV-5, CCTV-5+ and CCTV-16. It will also use technologies such as 4K/8K ultra-high definition to enhance the viewing experience. Live broadcasts of all events will be carried out from 16:00 Beijing time to 06:00 the next day.
    • The strength of the UK is that they are 100% focused on the track, while Italy must to navigate between the track and the road: the line-up is different for practically every event, etc. Paternoster should focus 100% on the track; she won't win anything big on the road anymore. As it is, she's weak both there and there. The situation is different with Balsamo, as she's also having significant success on the road and likely earns the most money there.
    • Discovery+ in the UK have also got their schedule up now.     I notice that only thing listed as being in UHD is the Opening Ceremony though....
    • The problem over the last few years was that no-one was able to keep pace with the big Katie Archibald turns. Looks to be sorted now.
    • The women's top 50 is so crammed with athletes from the same five nations that it is not inconceivable they are unable to fill the full quota from the top 50, in which case a third double spot would open up between USA/BEL/GBR
    • That women's pursuit team looks brutally fast. Batter you over the head into submission brutal, perhaps not seen since the early Trott-Rowsell days The 4 minute barrier could be on borrowed time.   The two British women sprinters Finucane and Caldwell also look pretty ominous, indeed the whole women's sprint team looks in some shape and with some depth to get that result without Finucane   Work to do for the British men's teams, but they won't be unhappy either, not to mention Joe Truman's unexpected Kilo win.
    • I prefer to do mine like this guy (https://app.podiumsport.it/) does his "Projected Medals" as probability based rather than straight medal picking... all things being equal, conversion rates should be about the same and the outliers come out in the wash. Unfortunately most people just like medal picking, and think any other approach is weird
