True, but Nicola just destroyed Uzbek boxer (2 10-8 rounds) and the Uzbek had defeated Lin Yuting at the Asian qualifiers...So am personally atleast not holding on to any hope...

Wikipedia tells me that the Uzbek boxer was different in the Asian qualifiers than the one here. Could be a case of the second best boxer representing them here as the quota has been won.

Jitu Rai finishes 4th. A rollercoaster of a ride. Had a great first couple of rounds when he was among the medals. Then slipped to always be fighting elimination. Couldn't catchup with the medal positions. A very credible performance. Hope he peaks at the right time! :fingers:

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
    • Yeah, they do get broadcast pretty regularly.  I remember even back in Bode Miller's day they would show the training.
