up until the quarterfinals, the qualification rankings were used to seed riders into heats, but in the semifinals, we have the top two ranked left in one heat, how is this even fair?

Because the draw is set after the seeding and can not be changed.

 

Starikova took over the top seed part of the draw once she defeated Friedrich.

Race should absolutely have been neutralized, but the official who is supposed to do so got hit hard by a couple bikes as well, so yeah...

The official is being transported out of the stadium, but she's moving, so that's good. Seemed to be the one who got the worst hit.

I think they need to make the Scratch Race longer. 30 laps just isn’t enough time for anything to play out tactically expect for a massive (and dangerous) field sprint. This definitely isn’t the first time I’ve seen this happen in a Scratch Race.

 

Edit: Perhaps a bit of an over-reaction, since rider error is partially to blame of course. I still think they’re would be a net benefit from just extending the Scratch to 45 or 50 laps.

Especially in the women's field, where most scratches are done without any sort of attack at all.

Completely agree with him.  There was no reason to restart that first race, the only one being the GB guy was going to lose.
