Triathlon WT World Championship Series 2021

:GBR Alex Yee wins the men's race

:NED Maya Kingma wins the women's race.

I think this is significant because Yee will probably win the last place on the GBR team ahead of double gold medalist Alastair Brownlee

Currently, Ireland's Russell White is in the 55th and final Olympic qualification spot and has been defending that position for a while now. Hopefully he can make it over the line in Mexico next weekend to join Carolyn Hayes in Tokyo.

Triathlon WS resumes this weekend in Montreal :CAN   It’s part of a Canadian double bill with Edmonton next weekend, sneaking in before cruel winter descends on the Land of Snows.

They’re pioneering a new solo Super Sprint race format on Saturday, with a conventional Mixed Relay on Sunday.

As usual it’s PayTV only if you don’t have VPN access to the BBC website.

Knibb was really impressive during the first qualifier, I think she will be the future of women triathlon. I see her winning tomorrow

The men race look interesting as there is a lot of potential winners.

Knibb was very impressive on the cycling part. Duffy is on the same shape as in Tokyo but on this sprint event I don't think see can beat Knibb. To complete the podium I have my eyes on Lindemann but she will need a better cycling, at least stay in contact with Knibb and Duffy.

First surprise with Betto out, but she crash during T1 and this format is mistakeless

Without the best swimmer in the second leg it will be interesting to see if Knibb will dynamite the cycling too and if best runner can come back this time too.

This weekend sees the official Final Event of the 2021 Triathlon World Championship Series in Edmonton, :CAN. This is not the final TWCS event of the calendar year 2021, but the three postponed events from the early summer - Abu Dhabi, Hamburg, Bermuda - will now count towards the 2022 Champs.

In the men's event, it's billed as a replay of the Olympic Final between Alex Yee & Kristian Blummenfelt, although many other combinations are mathematically possible.  In the women's, it is Flora Duffy versus :USA & the year's new discovery,  Maya Kingma :NED.

There are also U-23 races, which will be a one-off World Championship after the last two seasons were lost.  They're only available on PayTV though.

    • It’s honestly baffling how bad she was in 2018. Just absolutely lost her head. Real shame too because she is so gifted. I do hope Li Jianrou sends her a Christmas card every year tho, she was absolutely gifted a gold medal by Christie in 2014.
    • Oh I’m not done yet, unfortunately. From the names that could be back but are still injured   Courtney Hoffos Mikael Kingsbury (should be back before the Olympics) Connor Howe (he returned, but nowhere close to his best so his injury is still giving him issues) Connor Bedard Meryeta O’Dine Megan Oldham
    • Italy also has its own list, although of course not every injury is as terribile  in terms of medal losses. In winter sports have unfortunately much more injuries than summer sports. In the summer only: cycling, volleyball and football.     - Brignone: will return in January, - Tabanelli: will return for the Olympics, - Bassino: season over, - Marta Rossetti: season over, - Lara Malsinier: season over.
    • TNT staff expect they will offer it at a price similar to what they offering the Winter Olympics for rather than the full TNT price.   But equally the main coverage is apparently going to be very different to what they do for the Olympics (Which is less pundits and studio chat than the BBC) with speculation it might be based on NBC’s Olympic coverage with tons of human interest etc.
    • India Sherret (ski cross)   Another name to the ever-growing list of injuries for the Canadian team… used to be excited for the Olympics, now not so much…
    • Voted  Thank you for extending the deadline and allowing me to vote once my exams are over. @OlympicIRL
