No, certainly not. The parallel event and the combined are joke events. I already wrote a couple days ago that a bronze in the super g for example is more valuable than a gold in the combined, which is infinitely more valuable than a gold in the parallel competition. In the end most of the results here are not relevant thanks to the conditions.

Hey, if you can't ski on ice, it shows you're not a complete skier. It's World Championships, not a request concert Medals stay forever no matter if the courses are flat, short, icy or whatever excuse you want to find We've seen worst World Championships like the infamous Morioka crapshoot or the shortened courses in Aare. Cortina is good, finally some proper ice slopes some people are completely unprepared for.

I am not talking about the condition of the course. I am talking about the fact that a) Most of the favorites didn’t even bother to show up in the parallel slalom b) A gazillion Norwegian guys who could have medaled are injured c) Many athletes not being in top shape thanks to COVID.

De Aliprandini was our secret weapon, we've been good at keeping him hidden enough until today...

 

jokes, aside...obviously he wasn't among the favourites today, but he has shown more than once that on a given day he's capable of being a top GS specialist...

 

unfortunately for him, he was never capable of doing it for 2 consecutive runs in the same day...but today finally it was the good one, he kept his heart rate at a reasonable level between the 2 runs and eventually got the podium he was only close to more than once in the last few seasons...

 

luckily, it happened at the home worlds (and even more after his teammates have summed up epic fails in series so far)...

 

p.s this is the 1st ever Silver medal in the men's GS for Italy (after 4 Gold and 3 Bronze medals)...

If you miss Norwegians winning medals then switch over to biathlon or wait for the Nordic champs in Oberstdorf. I presume they will make up for Kilde & Braathen's injuries. The way Stjernesund and Holtmann struggled yesterday and Kristoffersen and Haugen today makes me think they simply couldn't perform on icy slopes.

Faivre getting two gold (!) medals after the season he had is utterly bizarre. He will be hard pressed to repeat any of this.

I certainly don’t miss Norwegians dominating every single event. I feel like whenever one of the Norwegians declines or retires there are five new ones who are suddenly world class. It still has to be mentioned that the results might have been very different if all the Norwegian guys would have competed. Maybe they don’t like the conditions, but they still won the team competition. Kristoffersen has been pretty trash in the giant slalom all season long, I wouldn’t read anything into it. I don’t know anything about the other athletes you mentioned, but I don’t think that they were considered medal contenders.
