Pretty impressive retirement credentials for :GBR track cyclist Dan Bigham - he goes off to become head of engineering at Red Bull-Bora! :yikes:  So not just your usual punch-drunk ex-sportsman.

:CZE 400m runner Pavel Maslak.  Nobody really wants to be remembered as an indoor World Champion & nothing else, but it's more than 99% of runners achieve.

:CAN Sarah Pavan (beach volleyball)

World Champion in 2019 (although I wasn’t a fan of this sport back then, as I only started watching in 2021 or so, I have watched the match back on YouTube and they played unbelievably well) and former World #1 alongside Humana-Parades (they were also the #1 team at Tokyo 2020), Former World #3 alongside Bansley, Two time Olympian in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 (Bansley/Humana-Parades, both quarterfinal finishes), Back-to-back Commonwealth Games champions in Gold Coast 2018/Birmingham 2022 and a winner of numerous World Tour and Pro Tour medals

Wasn't that already his job at INEOS before becoming more known as a cyclist himself? :p

It was something of the kind.  Rather like Kristian Bromley who went from studying ice sliding theoretically as a PhD student to being skeleton World Champion.

Technically he became known as the 'brains' behind a small independent trade team that was outperforming national teams, before then working with the Danish TP in Tokyo.

It was after all that happened that INEOS/GB finally came calling. I think they never fully appreciated his talents until it was almost too late.

    • What are the odds WTA/ITF has Kostyuk vs Potapova AO R1 just to see if the hand shake happens?
    • Malinin  opted for the 4-Axel in his Short Program, but faltered, landing him in 3rd thus far (and only 0.05 away from 4th!).  Surely he has the tools to rise back up in the Free Program.  (Also, perhaps this will serve to show him that he is in fact beatable.)
    • I think they incorrectly translated Ukrainian word "nahorody" - it is not a full synonym of "medal". Its cocrrect translation is "award". Meanwhile russian tennis playes switched for Potapova ->  Rakhimova ->
    • Ukrainian diver Lyskun switches allegiance to Russia, loses all medals | Olympics News | Al Jazeera   'loses all medals'   I would assume Al Jazeera could have been a bit clearer and mention this would presumably only be national medals. I mean, it's not like the Ukrainian federation, or any single federation for that matter, has the power to strip her of her world and European championships medals I hope (not for her sake, but because that would be a super weird precedent)
    • That's what I'd plan as well (except for MelFest), but I also know I am hypocritical enough to still want to watch the show and have a fun evening
    • Confirmation about the broadcasting rights.   If I'm reading it right, for most of Europe it will now be exclusive to Discovery/Eurosport or whatever brand they use.     For outside Europe, it's on YouTube. For Planet VPN....well, let us know if you find out.   fil-taker-list-25-26-winterberg-1.pdf   Also, should have mentioned above that the Nations Cup races today are just over one leg, whereas there are two runs in each of the World Cup races.
    • Got our first competition of the season coming up in Solitude, Utah  this weekend.  Live on Discovery Plus etc, plus also YouTube and the Olympic Channel.  If you are new to the sport, the sprint races on Saturday will be the format you'll find easy to understand.     ISMF   ISMF Skimo - YouTube
    • Surely. Her first coach now works in russia (and grandma lives in russia according to Sereda). They were in contact and despite of full funding from  the girl decided to become the star of russian propaganda.  As I saw in X: "It took the Russians four years of war to find a relatively well-known sports personality to carry out such a propaganda operation."
