I think by the end of the Games GB Athletics will look worse than the rowing as i think the amount of finals reached will likely be the lowest ever and leaving without medals is plausible.

Following Emma Wilson's windsurfing bronze GB is well in contention in six other classes after today's racing.

Men's Finn             1st after 8/10 races

"         470              2nd after 6/10

"         49er            2nd after 12/12

Women's 470        2nd after 6/10

"              49erFX   5th after 12/12

Mixed Nacra         2nd after 9/12

Although only 5th going into the women's 49erFX class medal race they can still potentially win any of the medals it is so close.

Laura Muir feels only possible individual medal GB is getting on the track with Dina in shit form.

GB Athletics is going to be in massive Shit and will get funding cut in a sport that is so hard to really improve from one games to another.

Kind of crazy given how amazing team GB was at the 2017 and 2019 worlds.

Helped doing well in the relays and Dina and KJT being in form which they are not. Plus in 2017 Mo Farah was still there.

And yet so far GB has qualified more athletes for track & field finals in events that have completed qualification than they did in 2016. And DNA isn't out of form she has issues with her hamstring.

You're very good at making claims of disaster before events actually take place.

The 800 women seem fantastic. I really hope one of them gets a medal. The other stand outs have been Netta and the men’s high jump and pole vault at least making their finals.

Gracenote have adjusted their predicted medal total for GB upwards from 52 to 62. Interesting because in the original 52 were two individual medals for Dina and several other week 2  medals that feel fairly unlikely. They now predict 16 golds instead of 14 as well.

Sailing latest.

Men's Finn              1st after 10/10

"         470               4th after 8/10

"         49er              2nd after 12/12

Women's 470          1st after 8/10

"               49erFX    5th after 12/12

Mixed Nacra           2nd after 12/12

Following Emma Wilson's windsurfing bronze GB were guaranteed two further medals in the Finn and Nacra classes today.

Giles Scott needs a top five finish in the ten boat medal race to guarantee gold. Wherever he finishes he'll get at least a bronze. In the Nacra catamaran the GB pair trail the leaders by 12 pts and lead the third placed boat by the same number of points. Likeliest outcomes a gold and a silver.

We go into the medal races for the 49er and 49erFX in 2nd and 5th respectively and both or neither could medal. Lots of boats still in with a chance and it's too close to call.

The men's and women's 470 classes still have two races to go before the medal race. In the women's, Mills and McIntyre lie first and on current form I think they will likely go into the medal race with a top three spot guaranteed. They are in a really close race with the Poles but either gold or silver seems a good prospect. The men's boat are tied on pts with the third placed team and just a handful of pts behind the second. Difficult to predict what may happen here.

We now have three medals guaranteed. At least one more seems very likely and up to seven are a real possibility. Like the boxing squad we maybe on course for a record breaking performance from our sailors.

    • whatever you heard is just speculation. no one knows at the moment, probably even the orange himself.   and Iranian athletes failed to get visa so many times before. even female athletes. there is no pattern, it's just too random.    and yes Iran has a system of compulsory military service for men, and there is 50% chance for anybody to be randomly drafted by IRGC affiliated organizations. that's the case for Taremi and few others in the current team.
    • Would you believe the NCAA Indoor season has already started?
    • Some changes that I've noticed:   3x3 Basketball: With the expanded 12 team field, one extra team per gender qualifies through world rankings, one extra team qualifies through the universality driven tournament and there's now an Olympic Qualifier series to award the final quotas.   Beach Volleyball: Continental qualifiers have have priority over the World championship and World Rankings quotas and there's now Olympic Qualifier Series quotas.   Canoe Sprint: World ranking system now in place and will be used instead of awarding world championship quotas. Road Cycling: 2 nations ranking quotas per gender moved to universality.   Track Cycling: Sprint and Keirin ranking list is now combined and will award 14 quotas per gender. Previously it was 7+7. Team pursuit down to 8 quotas from 10. 2 of the quotas have been moved to madison (one additional team) and 6 to the omnium.   Fencing: Can get a Continental quota of you finished in the top 24 of the rankings. It was previously top 16.    Hockey: 2 pro league quotas replace two qualification tournament quotas.   Judo: 5 less universality places and 4 more Continental places. For men, there's two more spots for Asia, one less for Oceania and 1 more for the Americas. For the women, there's one more spot for Europe, one less for Oceania and two more for Asia.   Modern Pentathlon: Less quotas awarded through world rankings as a result of quota cuts.   Open Water Swimming: Introduction of world ranking qualifier.   Sailing: In general, seems to be more quotas awarded at the last chance regatta and less quotas at the World Championships   Shooting: One less quota handed out at each World Championship and the return on World Cup qualifiers.   Swimming: Olympic qualification and consideration times renamed to A and B standard. B standard is now 1% slower than the A standard compared to 0.5% in 2024. Stroke 50s have their own direct qualification events and have minimum time standards instead of A and B standards. Qualification times have been nuked again. B standard selection process has also changed.   Volleyball: New revised format. Continental championships first, then world championships followed by world rankings. In 2024, it was 3 qualification tournaments and then world rankings. Only 3 countries per gender will qualify by world rankings now compared to 5 in 2024
