Yea can't blame the ICF entirely. The sport is one of the bottom 5 IF's ... It needs to adapt to survive... As stupid is this is.... Better some canoeing than none at all.

ITG has confirmed that the following sports did not request additional events for Paris 2024: Archery, badminton, basketball, equestrian, football, hockey, rugby, tennis and volleyball.

 

Those numbers don’t match the information provided by the IOC originally, so either some have rescinded their requests, or they have requested other changes such as quota additions/reduction.

So, athletics may have another new event? What this time? Mixed NOC mixed gender 4x333m hurdles relay?

No, it’s a Mixed Cross Country Relay. According to ITG they’ve also asked for the inclusion on the Women’s 50km Walk Race as well.

 Before those mixed events they should add just normal cross country races, the relays and mixed events (if have to be added) shouldn't be added at least until 2032.

This gives them a chance to standardize the program. All sprint events should be over 1000 m (K1-2-4/C1-2).

 

Not that I think it will happen. Not in the least. Maybe they will change women's C1 200 m with 500 m.

Like, I'm all for the X-Gamification of the Olympics. Freestyle skiing is my favourite Olympic sport, I love slopestyle, I love half-pipe, I love ski/snowboardcross, I tolerate big air, I like BMX racing, I'm super happy about skateboarding, surfing and BMX freestyle being added to the Olympics. Kayakcross (I refuse to call it anything else) is a neat idea in theory but it just doesn't work on an artificial whitewater course, and it hasn't caught on in the same way all the other events I have listed above have. The Olympics needed snowboarding, freestyle skiing, skateboarding and surfing way more than those sports needed the Olympics. "Extreme canoe slalom", on the other hand, needs the Olympics to grow.

It would have helped if extreme canoe slalom was actually extreme, but....it's just not. At all.

I find it incredibly hard nowadays to judge whether or not posts like these are sarcastic or have some nonsense in them on purpose, or if it's actually reality  

 

Someone could say "They're trying to add the 280 meters crawling-under-the-hurdles" and it wouldn't even sound off in between all the stuff that's actually real.
