Completely unrelated question, but: Is the smell of tangerines also associated with Christmas in other countries around the world or is it more of a central/eastern Europe thing?

*wonders about the popularity of tangerines around the world whilst eating tangerines*

Not really. :d It was during the communism era as one of the symbols of the so-called end of year festivities "nowadays Christmas holidays" but it was common for all other exotic fruits too like bananas or ananas, things you hardly found in our market during communism and were considered as something really special and expensive,

but nowadays not at all ! I mean Christmas is winter, fruits are summer :d

They are popular here, but not really related to Christmas.

It has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas here, but I do love tangerines. Any time of the year.

Well, in here it's like a religious belief. If anybody starts peeling a tangerine in a room, twenty other people would start screaming "OMG, it smells like Christmas" :d
