Equestrian FEI Dressage & Jumping European Championships 2017

Recommended Posts

It's that time of the year again. :d:cheer:

Nominated entries have been published (these also include all the reserves... teams can choose max 4 athletes). Some teams have already published their final teams, which can be found here. I will write a review here once that all definite entries are in. :)

Jumping European Championships nominated entries are out here too... Welcome :MKD Macedonia. :cheer:

Meanwhile, even though they have enough athletes on the nominated entries list, in a shocking decision Britain decided not to fill a team, but only 2 individuals instead! :yikes: That must be the first time in history.

It's sad that our dressage scene is as bad as ever..... if you remove Judy from the picture then there is nothing.

I think I've read few months ago that Ireland was planning to field a team, but wasn't to be apparently. :( Weird, because both James Connor and Roland Tong have achieved their qualifications.

Well, at least Judy has every chance for placing within the top 10 here.

The Irish federations like to do a lot of talking and planning but in the end usually nothing comes from it. How hard can it be to field a team or to organise some kind of plan to get up to that standard? Sometimes I wonder why we have Chef d'Equipes or head coaches in many sports at all for all they contribute.

Correction for :POL - due to injury of one of top horses (I don't know which one) there will be no Polish team "for it has no chance for good result" (official information of Polish Equestrian Federation). The only Polish pair will be Kaźmierczak on Stakorado.

Well, that's unfortunate.

I never understand such decisions, you will not learn something new at home. :dunno:

Definite entries are out. 69 athletes from 21 nations will compete. That's 3 athletes less than what nominated entries suggested as BEL/POL will be sending a team of 3 instead of 4 and Italy withdrew altogether.

It's highly dissapointing to see :ITA Italy completely missing the event (for the first time ever perhaps). :( Pia Laus-Schneider was in great shape with Shadow this season, but I guess some injury came up. Same goes for Norma Paoli. :dunno: Also :LUX Luxembourg... They had a complete team at the 2013-2015 World and European championships, but this time they don't compete at all.  :(

Definite jumping entries are also here. These also include the travelling reserves. In any case, 81 riders from 26 nations will compete.

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
