Only 4 women finished. Randall, who caused this event to be added this year with the help of her lawyer, had a gap of 42:26 after 40 km.

Now they insist for it to be added to the Olympic programme to reach gender equality.

IAAF face more threats of legal action as Tokyo 2020 set as next target for women's 50km walk

As the article says, " Gender equality could be achieved by adding it at Paris 2024 but it could also be done by dropping the men's 50km race walk from the programme."

Adding it to Tokyo 2020 is probably too early, but definitely not as shameful as adding it for these world championships. Now they had a day or so to qualify (obviously nobody did, except for those who coincidentally already had a 50k time), for future champs they have a normal amount of time.

Retirement does not beckon for Yohann Diniz, who turns 40 on 1 January.

"It is a lovely Sunday afternoon. I know you should never take any decision when you are hot. I am still missing one (title) and that is the Olympic one. It would be a nice way to finish in Tokyo."
