Women's Handball IHF World Championship 2021

Recommended Posts

Pathetic performance from Polish women. I won't be surprised if Karolina Kudlacz announces her NT retirement soon. It's not worth the effort anymore.

Kinga Grzyb once retired from NT already and might do that again. She didn't even get called up for Austria and it sounded like it was her own decision.

Monika Kobylinska will return from injury and let's hope her career doesn't get wrecked like Alina Wojtas before.

We can't rely on wild cards all the time, that's kinda pathetic and hardly a reason to be proud of.

Four months after my previous post here and sure enough, we keep getting those wild cards again  Handball is truly an European-centric sport!

Also congrats to Slovakia, that seems like a completely random choice picked out of the hat ;)

The COVID-protocol for the championship has been presented and one of the major points in the document is that all players and team staff members must be fully vaccinated or currently recover after a COVID-infection (immune period).

https://www.ihf.info/media-center/news/spain-2021-covid-19-precaution-plan-released

With only 18 days left to the championship begins, this could affect some teams. Here I think some African teams could be affected by this regulation as their countries' vaccination program are maybe not in full effect yet. A question would also be what is meant by fully vaccinated? Is getting the vaccine some days before the start of the championship enough or must participants also wait 14 days before the vaccine is fully in effect?

We will see how these regulations will affect teams when we come closer to the start of the championship.

    • Yes, but Geiger and Wellinger have both achieved some success in major events, while Paschke hasn't. Geiger certainly has a better chance in Cortina than Paschke at now, but it has to be the his decision to withdraw and give a chance to his team- mate. Otherwise, it wouldn't be fair to him. I don't think Horngacher will force him to withdraw.
