So now we already have 5 nations with medals, France with a great start. Belarus narrowly missing a medal again. Impressive skiing time for Wright. Also impressive times for Geny and Betemps, considering that they are both 1 year younger.

Looks like Irodov :RUS for the gold.  Geny of :FRA for the Silver, and Kienesberger :AUT with the bronze.  No one shot clear.  Vasililev of Bulgaria missed 10 and only finished 7 min behind.  Quite quick as well.  22 missed 10 or more shots.  US slightly better - 7,10,8,9 misses.

Hello darkness my old friend...

A top 70 is too much of an ask from our youth team and this is the second year in a row where our youth is performing tragically.

All eyes on the juniors, there are some talented Lithuanian names there

Although, seems like the future of our biathlon is extremely uncertain. Kočergina and the guys are not going to be there forever and we have no one that can replace them.

Unbelievable medal Ema  I can not even remember the last SVK medal from juniors competition

and a brief return to the success of Ema, because yes, it is highly unusual to celebrate Slovak medal in Biathlon Juniors World Championships.

This was the 10th medal for :SVK biathlon (0 - 5 - 5) since the independence in 1993.

We were waiting for it 13 years ! after in exactly the same event Natália Prekopová won also Bronze in Ruhpolding 2008 in the Youth individual won by Dorothea Wierer.

So congrats Ema, huge medal something for example even the Fialková sisters never achieved.

Does anyone know why Norway was not in the Individual?  Aasne Skrede is one that should do well on the women's side of things.  Are they absent for the entire championship due to the nations ban on hosting winter sports events?  Or was it a decision to ski the Individual?

Norway will compete in the junior events tomorrow. Some names to look for:

Women: Bened (France), Botet (France), Passler (Italy), Trabucchi (Italy), Gandler (Austria), Baserga (Switzerland) and Shevchenko (Russia, the big favorite)

Sadly Skrede from Norway, who would have been the biggest rival for Shevchenko, won’t compete.

Men: Claude (France), Mahon (France), Vidmar (Slovenia), Cisar (Slovenia), Hartweg (Switzerland), Zingerle (Italy) and hopefully (from a German perspective) Riethmüller.
Sadly Bionaz from Italy (who would have been one of the. Ingest favorites) won’t compete.

Goreeva (Russia) and Chauveau (France) were amongst the fastest in the IBU Cup (juniors and seniors combined) in January, not to overlook. On this format Slettermark (Greenland) will be in the mix too. Look at Halvarsson and Johansson for Sweden too.

For the men Bionaz is not here, but the same can be said for Giacomel and above all, Filip Andersen (Norway). Perrot (France) to follow also, keep an eye on Kireyev (Kazakhstan) and Stefansson (Sweden).

Thanks. There are just too many medal contenders, you could probably name all Norwegian/Russian athletes too. I think there are just more competitive athletes at this level compared to youth level.

At least for the Russians we have some benchmarks (IBU Cup), Serokhvostov is probably the fastest athlete in the field but so unsure on the range. As for the Norwegians, not very much to compare to ...

    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
    • Totallympics had  users at one point, but I haven't seen any hanging around in a while.
    • In terms of total medals, yes. In terms of golds, I’d be fine with anywhere from 6-8.   @intoronto you don’t think we’ll do better or at least the same? Bit surprising.
    • Tadeucci was very good and took bronze
    • On the Olympics I don't like to count golds to analyse the performance, I think the best data are the top8 and medals. In both fields I expect a big improvement (obviously not on the 'pure' number, but on the percentage of medal or top8 events)
