Today is Quarterfinals day, teams that win qualify for WC (but anyway all 8 teams will likely end up qualifying at the end).

:ARG beats :PAK to become the 1st team to qualify for world cup:clap:

And after that :IND lost to :MAS :yikes:

Disappointing result.

Luckily, we have already qualified to WC and World League Finals by virtue of being hosts.

Achievement worth mentioning: Italy has qualified for the QF in Brussels and will very likely play a women's world cup after 42 years :)

Amazing results for our history, tomorrow Italy-Netherlands. I hope that we'll qualify to the final of the WL too, but it's hard.

With Netherlands as rival in QF you need to take 5th place.

They are in the same group, so they can't play in QF. He's talking about the final group game that is tomorrow.

Italy IMO will likely finish 3rd in the group, which means their opponent could be Australia, Belgium or New Zealand

That's right, my mistake, sorry.

Finished with 0:1 loss. It's a loss, but I think it's a great start for our girls. On Monday we play with England - another tough game, but after what I saw today I think we might fight for some surprise.

After today, the 16 teams that will play the women's world cup have been practically decided. They will be:  :NED:ENG:GER:ESP:BEL:ITA:IRL:ARG:USA:CHN:KOR:JPN:IND:NZL:AUS:RSA

The reason it's all but decided is because there is like less than 1% chance for the 5 continental champions to not be among these teams. Unfortunately :CHI did a big effort beating  :RSA at their home turf, but said team managed a comeback win against USA today to reach the QFs, leaving Chile out. Dream of a first World Cup for them will have to wait another 4 years.

She wasn’t a top-tier athlete in that program anymore. She was at the end of her career. I would personally would rather race against Katie. She’s not as competitive as the other athletes,” he said. “It’s probably really unfair to say and not really where I want to go with this but that’s where we are with that.”   Uhlaender: “If I were Canada, I would be concerned in how this coach is representing the Olympic values for his country,” Uhlaender told Fox News Digital. “He hurt a whole field of athletes, all with dreams, and this sends the message that they don’t matter unless they are number one. All athletes matter, and we all deserve to compete fairly, with integrity, and respect. He did not respect anyone in that field. “This is not about my resume or how good the athletes were in the race. This is about the fact that he intentionally manipulated the competition to hurt myself and 13 other countries because he felt it necessary to eliminate all possibility. That is against the spirit of sport and not what the Olympic movement represents.”   Isn't it great when other people's dirty laundry is aired?  /sarcasm     (I was a little surprised to see NPR pick this up, but per this article, Uhlaender preemptively recorded the phone call after receiving a text from Cecchini that said he had 'bad news' for her.)
    • Idea (that I don't want to mess with right now, but someone else can steal the idea): Could feed the docs from LA28 + Paris 2024 through AI and see what it says.  (Would just take downloading them, perhaps merging them for ease of upload, and passing it through.)
    • If you have time would love to see a sport by sport overview of the changes/new sports
    • Slowly going through the documents.   Looks like canoe slalom qualifiers will be a bit different. More kayak cross quotas which will let nations to essentially qualify two kayakers.
    • How about we choose either Rome or Milano  I hate this timeline we have entered of multiple host cities / countries. The football World Cup became ludicrous, we don't need the Olympics to join them. At least not more than they already are.

    • I'm also reminded as I know Canadians are painfully aware that if figures hadn't been a part of the 1984 Olympics, then Brian Orser would have won gold.  Hamilton could have finished 4th in the free skate that year and still beat Orser who finished 7th in the figures
