and Kuwait won a bronze medal :d by beating .... nobody :p the Russian guy withdrew from the bronze medal match.

the level isn't great in general here. there are some big names in some weights but in general both the qualify and the quantity aren't great. no surprise we will have the European QT in couple weeks. Kazakhstan and Hungary brought almost their full squad here. probably kind of their internal trials. Russia is here with "almost" A team but their guys for the European OQT are absent as expected.

hopefully the level is better in freestyle, we only sent two FS guys here. don't ask me why just 2 , why not a full team, (or even why not sending nobody) our federation is sometimes "hard" to understand.

UWW confirms the rumor I heard long time ago

the former world champion Khetag Tsabolov will wrestle for Serbia, in UWW database they are showing Serbian flag instead of Russia for him

https://www.iat.uni-leipzig.de/datenbanken/dbwrestling/daten.php?spid=8D1E74B679C345E2B5B08857723DC54C

still he will miss the European Qualifier next week since he wrestled for Russia 3 years ago in the 2018 European Champs but if I'm not wrong he will eligible to wrestle in the last chance qualifier in Bulgaria.

he is a very tricky wrestler, at the age of 29 he is not in his best shape but he beat world champion Sidakov in the Russian nationals last year. he can beat anybody in the world if his opponent makes a mistake.  if he qualifies, he will be one of the medal contenders in Tokyo.

we have Russian nationals this weekend, the winner most probably will go to the Olympics.

Zaur Uguev (57), Zaurbek Sidakov (74), Artur Naifokov (86) win the nationals, 65kg final is scheduled for tomorrow but Gazhimurad Rashidov is expected to win. at 97kg, the great Abdulrashid Sadulev was exempt and didn't wrestle here, he will be in Tokyo. and Russian's main guy at 125 (Shamil Sharipov) didn't wrestle here too, why ? because he has to wrestle in Hungary next weekend for the Olympic quota. he will wrestle Sergey Kozyrov (125kg winner here) in April. this is the only weight Russia failed to qualify in Nur-Sultan.

this is the 74kg final, where a VERY DUMB mistake by Razambek Zhamalov most probably cost him an Olympic medal, he was leading 2-0 against World Champion Sidakov, gave up a pushout in last 10 seconds, still leading 2-1, gave up another in last 2 seconds because he thought he had a 2pointer and 2-2 would be enough for him! which was a mistake, he had 1+1

The Hungarian team for the European Championships (wrestlers who already qualified for Tokyo in bold)

Greco-Roman

60kg: József Andrási

63kg: Erik Torba

67kg: Máté Krasznai

72kg: Róbert Fritsch

77kg: Tamás Lőrincz

82kg: László Szabó

87kg: Viktor Lőrincz

97kg: Balázs Kiss

Freestyle

61kg: Richárd Villhelm

65kg: Iszmail Muszukajev

70kg: Dániel Antal

74kg: Csaba Vida

125kg: Dániel Ligeti

Women's

55kg: Mercédesz Dénes

57kg: Ramóna Galabos

62kg: Marianna Sastin

75kg: Zsanett Németh

This will be the final international event for World Champion Balázs Kiss before he retires. And as you can see, this will be the "warm-up event" for our wrestlers who qualified for Tokyo at the WCh in 2019. Korpási is "taking a break" after the successful European qualifiers.

Is Sadulaev still making everyone else look like a human ragdoll? :p

the new Sadulaev is a bit conservative, he scores 3 or 4 and wins 3-0 or 4-0. some people think he is getting weaker but I don't think so, he just doesn't care about the scoreboard anymore. he wants the win with less possible risks. some wrestlers scored 1 or 2 against him "made him angry" and he destroyed them later :d

oh well , I assume this guy is/was a legend in India, 2 time Olympic medalist and the only Indian World Champion in this sport. that's really sad and disappointing.

    • Spalletti is a much better coach than Gattuso, but what did his team show at the Euro against Switzerland, or in Oslo against Norway? Nothing... I'm afraid that even Guardiola and Klopp wouldn't help here- well, maybe they could somehow push Bosnia through, but what next?
    • Denmark can only blame themselves for that Belarus match. A win and they'd qualify with a game to spare alas...   Gattuso has no business being a manager at this level. Italian problems come from the lack of domestic talent in Serie A but Gattuso ain't gonna fix anything.
    • Just listening to Gattuso is enough to understand that he's a simpleton.  Honor, pride, grit...but he is a coach, not a Spartan soldier. And he was surrounded by other idiots who confessed they had to buy their high school diploma. 1-0 up but down to 10 men and they are playing only counters with a lone forward with good pace (Kean, who almost scored the second) and Gattuso replaces him with a target man. Then 1-1, the team is forced to play more possession and the first thing he does is taking out a ball playing midfielder (who served a near assist just moments before) for Frattesi, who is only good in running into empty spaces to finish but always shy away from playing the ball.

    • The last time this team played well was at Euro 2021 under Mancini, but they 8 months later they lost to Macedonia at home in a 2022 World Cup qualifier play- off at home game... In my opinion, Italy Euro success was thanks to Chiellini and Bonucci's recent big form and Chiesa's tournament of a life. Without them, Italy is simply average team: the 1-4 and 0-3 group defeats to Norway wasn`t a case (under Spalletti, so a good manager, at all). Play-offs, however, are always a lottery in this format – especially when you're playing decisive matches away and also under the pressure of Italy now + Bastoni's red card episode. Such things are decisive. Take the current play-offs: Poland, Denmark and Italy could just as easily have advanced, instead of the Czech Republic, Sweden or Bosnia. Top teams simply don't have to play in these play-offs, why they avoiding the risk of defeat. In groups you have 7-8 home and away matches and no only one- last match chance away
    • Btw our coach (likely in a couple of days ex-coach as well ) Calzona, not the pizza, Italian himself, presented his 2 cents about Italian failure as well in the press conference after our useless match against Romania. Talk about how nonsensical and pointless this match was    https://sport.aktuality.sk/futbal/clanok/francesco-calzona-reakcia-na-bosna-taliansko-zaspali-sme-2026040100555755775
    • Was the problem really the coaching staff ? I mean it is 3rd time and in all 3 cases there were different coaches, right ?   Probabyl the issue is somewhere else, I did not know Gattuso and his staff played the matches on the pitch themselves
    • It's sad that Buffon is tarnishing his legend and the same think is for Gattuso. Ranieri did the right thing by refusing... Who's going to replace Gravina now? Malago, or someone from the football community?
