These two world cups are going to be important internal qualifier for which 3 riders (m/w) will go to Tokyo. Baauw and Smulders are lock-ins of course. Just like Kiemann on the men's side.

Just looked up the results and it looks like Laura Smulders fell in the final. It was Merel Smulders, her younger sister, that finished 2nd behind Baauw!

Kimmann didn't reach the final to my surprise, placing 6th in his semifinal.

But Kimmann didn't convince at all; he lost it at the start in each heat. It seems to be structural, because last week in the European Cup happened the same. Was moving to Switzerland wise? Unfortunately world champion Twan van Gendt has a shoulder injury. Not sure which riders take the second and third spot.

At the ladies side Laura Smulders didn't convince with her starts as well. But Baauw and Merel Smulders were strong today. Looks like Merel Smulders will take the third available spot.

Van Gendt has been unlucky with injuries the past two years. Hope he recovers in time doe Tokyo.

Just watched the youtube replay for day 2 (loving all these free streams for various sports).

Much better day for :NED Laura Smulders who won the women's race and :NED Kimmann with a 3rd place (despite a bad start again). :SUI Graf won the men's race.

Yes indeed. Laura Smulders looked a bit absent yesterday, but today her starts were much better. Her younger sister Merel became 4th today, enough for her to qualify for Tokio. Laura Smulders, Merel Smulders and Judi Baauw will represent :NED at the Games.

Niek Kimmann showed some signs of recovery. In the semifinal his start was phenomenal, but in the final he did not get off to a good start. Surprisingly he still finished third.
