first ever semifinal for Iran     Switzerland almost had it but Iran scored the equalizer in the very last minute before scoring the winner in extra time.

Very crazy final, but congrats, you really deserved it!

thanks, I hope Italy complete the semifinal :yes I guess Iran deserved it overall but to be honest they were hopeless in 3rd period before that last goal came from nowhere.

once again like Italy match Iran had a perfect start but fell apart somewhere in the match, except this time the falling happened in 2nd period and there was still time for a comeback. and actually that loss to Italy turned out to be a good thing :d now they can avoid Brazil in semifinal.

We are in semifinals!! A little boring match between Italy and Senegal and very low performance by all Senegalese attack. Only Senegal good player tonight was Samba, the goalkeeper. Btw, Gori score again a lot of goals, 3 tonight and 14 in a the tournament!

Next match for us will be very hard :fingers:, here the semifinals:

Thaiti - Iran

Brazil - Italy

Tahiti is in final, but very tragic penality for Iran, a crossbar and some great save  ! Really nice match, maybe a little boring, but amazing shoot-out and really great match for Hosseini and Jo!

And now Italy-Brazil, we need a miracle :pope::fingers:

:(:( Iran missed 4 penalties in a row in shoot-out. the first one was enough to send them to the final but Akbari missed that, from then our GK Hosseini saved us twice but couldn't save the 6th penalty. he also saved a penalty during the match, making it 4 saves out of 7. considering the fact Iran was leading 1-0 for most of the match that was really heartbreaking.

btw choosing the reserve GK (who didn't play a single minute) for taking the decisive penalty was a dumb mistake but that happens.

    • so, the Swiss reigning champions, who saved their ass in the last match of the RS, now are almost safe in the semis once again...   very impressive performance also by RB Salzburg, I didn't expect them to make such a good run, even if the 2nd leg match won't be easy at all and they're all but safe in the final four

    • I guess 65, 79, 88, 110, 110+ will be the Olympic classes for 2028 (I don't think IOC would allow them to increase the number of gold medals available at the Games yet...most likely they want to to stay with the current lineup and see how it goes in the next Olympic cycle in terms of doping scandals before taking any decision)  or maybe they will keep those weights for the "regular activity" and later on they will set 5 different weight classes only good for Olympic purposes, with dedicated tournaments when it's time for the OQ (like Taekwondo, more or less)  but it's just my personal speculation, I have no infos from the inside
    • Today the funniest tournament of the season, the Shoot Out, will starts
    • Luckily for us, it happened exactly as we thought. Unfortunately, the Serbian players had to play the entire match, the difference in value between the starters and the reserves being quite large, and thus at the end of the match their fatigue was evident.
    • if they limit the number of qualified athletes to 8 per category that will not exceed the allocated quota (marginally). I know 8 athletes only is a bit harsh but will be more competitive.
    • Thank you for putting this together, it was fun to go through. From your keyboard to God's ears on Canada's short track team here (I believe you have us at 4-1-1, which is realistic if everything works out).   Leaving us off the podium in speed skating women's pursuit was interesting.   Three medals of any colour in curling would be celebrated at this point after two disasterous cycles.   In hockey, I'll always take our girls over the Americans (was "lucky" enough to see them lose in 2018 in person, though. Only time in 6 Games. Haha...hahahahaha...ha).    For the men, I said above unless Canada finds a goaltender I'm not too optimistic. USA is just too well rounded. But lots can happen by then, and in a one game elimination tournament.
    • big decision by IWF   new weight categories, 8 for men and 8 for women from June 2025   Men 60kg, 65kg, 71kg, 79kg, 88kg, 98kg, 110kg, +110kg Women 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg, +86kg   and this means all World records will be erased AGAIN !    https://iwf.sport/2024/12/03/iwf-executive-board-meeting-in-manama-brn-december-2-3-main-decisions/   I think that was a good decision, 10 weights was too much. but erasing the current World Records was the down side of this decision.   but does this mean they have some agreements with IOC to have all these weights at the Olympics ? that looks unlikely though  but looking at the numbers and the gap between weights none of them look like a "non-Olympic weight" at least that's what IWF thinks.
