Prediction Contest

Rules: The game is simple. Every day, I'll post a few questions in the opening post of each thread and if you're playing, you post your answers to the questions below. Whoever gets the most questions right at the end of the Olympics wins. You can change your answers as many times as you like as long as the first event hasn't begun and you can join anytime.

1. Freestyle Skiing: Will Reece Howden finish top 3 in the ski cross seeding run?

2. Freestyle Skiing: Does Canada win a medal in mixed team aerials?

3. Speed Skating: How many Canadians between the men's and women's mass start will finish top 3 in a sprint lap? (Counting both semis and finals. There are 4 sprint laps in a mass start and they happen every 4th lap.)

4. Curling: How many ends will Canada score points in the men's gold medal game? (Curling games have 10 ends and may go to an extra end or finish early)
5. Closing Ceremony: Who will be the Canadian flagbearers for the Closing Ceremony? (You can name 1 male + 1 female. Up to two points will be awarded)

Yesterday's Answers:

Spoiler

1. Freestyle Skiing: How many Canadians will qualify for the Men's Aerials Final?

2 men qualified. Lewis Irving and Emile Nadeau qualified for the final. (Answered Correctly: BenAffleckIsAnOkActor, intoronto, Josh, orangeman)

2. Freestyle Skiing: Does every Canadian in both the men's and women's halfpipe qualify for the final?

No. Unfortunately, Dillan Glennie finished 14th in the women's qualification and was the only Canadian not to qualify. (Answered Correctly: BenAffleckIsAnOkActor, CanadaWolvesFC, George_D, intoronto, james89, orangeman, Safe Dragonfly, SGAxJamal

3. Freestyle Skiing: Will we see a Canadian in the women's ski cross big final? (4 athletes compete in the big final)

Rainy Day Sad Panda GIF by Kanpai Pandas Answered Correctly: Josh, SGAxJamal, Topicmaster1010

4. Ice Hockey: Pick a Canadian player in the game against Finland. If this player finishes with a positive +/-, then you will receive a point. If this player finishes with a +/- of 0, you will receive no points. If this player finishes with a negative +/-, YOU WILL LOSE A POINT. You can find the team roster here. If you don't know what +/- is, you can read about it here.

Mitch Marner, Nick Suzuki, Devon Toews - 0 (Answered neutrally: George_D, james89, Topicmaster1010)

Macklin Celebrini, Connor McDavid - -1 (Answered incorrectly: BenAffleckIsAnOkActor, CanadaWolvesFC, intoronto, Josh, orangeman, Safe Dragonfly, SGAxJamal)

*I'm assuming you mean how many individuals, meaning if someone does it twice, it's still only "one".

Yes, exactly

So answers could range anywhere from 0 to 4 since there's two entries in each event.

    • Super runner, good guy, sadly never entirely recovered from ripping his leg to shreds in the act of going sub 10, but as you say a key relay man for the better part of a decade, and a European and World Champion, and a reminder that talent doesn't always come in obvious looking boxes -a breakthrough sprint athlete for many of middle eastern and north african heritage.

    • Anže Kopitar (Ice Hockey) (will retire after the NHL playoffs this year)  Jonathan Quick (Ice Hockey)   Two of the biggest pieces of the LA Kings core that won two Stanley Cups during the early 2010's   Along with the two Stanley Cups, Kopitar also won the best defensive forward award two times and a leadership award in 2022.   Quick was the Stanley Cup playoff MVP in 2012 and also won an Olympic silver medal in 2010.
    • Duno. To me the most interesting question is the short term is whether Poilievre survives this or not. It will be tough for him to justify his leadership.
    • Wonder if they'll get a couple more floor crossers to strengthen their majority.
    • In , Mark Carney’s Liberal Party just secured a working majority through a combination of floor crossings and by-elections. Baring something unexpected the Liberals now do not have to face an election until October 2029.   The Liberals currently have 173 seats, and could win a 174th tonight. A majority is 171, but due to one of those seats being the Speaker a working majority is 172 seats.   Edit: the Liberals also won the by-election in Terrebonne (the general election result was vacated by the Supreme Court due to issues in the mail votes, the Liberal candidate who won the by-election had won by a single vote). First majority government in Canada since 2019.
