True but when it comes to these types of results that consistently happen many orgs take this as a signal that it's time to clean house.

I feel the worst part is I don't think that is gonna fix anything. Or at the very least I'm very skeptical it will. Like there doesn't seem to be anything that'll ensure we get better results in 2030 as of now.

Shoot everyone not named Sarault into the sun.

Joking, of course.

I’m pretty livid about the Secretary of Sports reactions to our performance. He was making light of it in a video on social media, how we were “stressing 40 million people in the first half but cleaning up” in the second of the Games.

When interviewed by the Globe & Mail, he defended the current funding levels, saying that the government needs to prioritize access to sport for all Canadians. Which I understand and agree with. But you can’t get Canadians into sport if they are not INSPIRED to do so. And how can we inspire people if we don’t perform at a high level?

But idk, it's getting increasingly looking like our consistent better results at the Summer Olympics is coming at the cost of success at our Winter Olympics.

Like I highly doubt that Tokyo and Paris being our best ever Summer Olympics and Beijing and Milano-Cortina being our worst Winter Olympics is just some random coincidence.

Ok yea, we're probs forever doomed if this is our mindset for the future. Accountability starts from the top. If you don't realize that, then you're the main reason of the problem of all this.

Further, there is no implicit spending dedicated to improving sport infrastructure in the most recent budget. Van Kooverden claims that it’s all a part of broader infrastructure spending, but if there is no guarantee as to where the money goes, it’s highly unlikely funds will be directed at improving facilities like the Calgary Oval.

A big part of the reason why we are doing so well in summer sports is actually pretty simple: accessibility. This should be a no brainer for the feds.

Getting into winter sports is generally much more costly than summer. So it’s not surprising that you see droves of young people go to swimming, athletics, etc.

There also is no drive or incentive to bring racialized, Indigenous, immigrant and disabled populations into winter sports. Coming from an Indian family, I can tell you that my parents had no desire to get me into anything more than skating. It didn’t resonate with newer Canadians when I was a kid, and without dedicated effort to attract new participants, it’s going to stay that way.

Yeah that definitely makes sense.

It’s a shame though, we used to be one of the top nations at the Winter Olympics and now we seem to be falling, and it’s embarrassing that government and arrogance and complacency is the main reason for it.

Ya, this is a great point. Sports like hockey are getting increasingly in accessible for kids who aren’t from well off families, and nothing is being done to bring in kids from non-white backgrounds into the sport. We see losing out on a ton of talent as a result.

I detect our weaknesses in :

snowboarding,  a sport we traditionally win a lot of medals and

sliding events where we used to have some medals (bronze at least) but now nothing .

Also figure Skating should be better

Sliding sports are kinda doomed until they rebuild the track in Calgary.
