It’s part of the script. Same with Homan. Purposeful losing for some reason.

I’ve been trying to stay optimistic but this is sad. Dandijnou had so much pressure on him this games. I really thought short track was going to be the key this year.

Yep, now that I've replayed it you seem to be right. But with those clips, you can't deny that Dandjinou had to put more to catch up, and then when it wasn't happening that's when he gave up.

I guess. But this is his second individual final where he just stopped moving on the last lap, and he wasn't much better in the relay, almost losing Canada a medal. 

 

I think we have to accept he's just not that good.
