Sweden is getting decimated by injuries. They are already down Carlsson and Brodin and possibly Nylander and others.

Frida Karlsson? Ok, it`s about hockey :)

This is my first Olympics on the forums...is there any sort of guessing game where we try to predict the podiums at each event?  (Slash, would there be any interest if not?)

Up to the 2024 games, there used to be regular prediction contests but since then, the prediction contest manager stepped down and no ones stepped up to replace them.

Maybe I'll try to come up with something if I have the time if there's enough interest.

Leo Carlsson. He's one of the best under 23 ice hockey players in the world.

Why not???

Until a few months ago, Spain were strong favorites to win a medal in the mixed relay—I would have bet any amount on it.
The problem is that in October Ana Alonso Rodríguez was hit by a car, suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL) with bone edema in the knee, a malleolar fracture, and an acromioclavicular joint dislocation.
She has returned to racing, but she’s in a lot of pain and can’t be competitive; we saw that as well at the Courchevel World Cup

Ah yes, I saw that.

But Oriol wasn’t involved in that, and he has a strong chance still

I was the latest manager for the prediction contest on this forum, but I had to step down when my daughter was born in late 2024. I simply didn't had the time anymore with a full-time work and having a baby.

Though, I miss the prediction contests and managing them. If I had better excel skills, knowledge of simple coding and how to use AI better, it would take less time to manage them. I think updating the daily scoreboard for prediction contests could be much more optimized with the help of better excel skill and the use of AI.

I have just finished with an Excel spreadsheet that I think will work for this.  I will share more in just a little bit once I work out some tweaks.

Here's what I have imagined thus far.  Feel free to offer suggestions (perhaps if there were features in previous editions).

1) Attached is a list of events, and a spot to put in the IOC code for who you think will win Gold, Silver, or Bronze.

2) Fill it out and post in the appropriate place before the first events on Day -2.

3) I have formulas that can calculate who got the most podium places exactly correct (that is, you thought Austria would win Gold, and they won Gold...I would award you two points), and who guessed best who would be on the podium in general (that is, you thought Austria would get Gold but in reality it was Austria with Silver...I would award you one point).

4) I could share results at the end, seeing who guessed the most medals exactly correct, and who guessed the best podiums regardless of placement.

(Because all the calculations are done automatically, it will take no time to calculate at the end.)

If this is good, I can make a different thread to be more visible.

If you email me I'll send you a sheet for an Olympic fantasy

    • What I think about  chances:   Football (W) - Already qualified Volleyball (W) - Impossible not to qualify Volleyball (M) - 100% Handball (W) - 95%    Basketball (M) - 55% - I think this is the team's best moment in about 15 years. So I'm more confident this time.   Rugby (W) - 65% - Argentina is really improving, but I think in a direct confrontation for the spot we would still prevail, but this could be our last Olympics until they overtake us in this sport.   Football (M) - 30% - I don't think the CBF wants to miss another Olympics. Of course, it will depend on the clubs, but it will probably be the best team available. Which should be enough to have a chance at qualifying.   Handball (M) - 50% - This should be the best time to qualify, considering that Argentina is rebuilding, but I'm not going to give this team any favoritism.   Basketball (W) - 10% - The team has two really good players, if a miracle happens... But I doubt it.   Water Polo (M) - 33% - Canada, Brazil, and Argentina are at the same level.   Water Polo (W) - 5% - Canada isn't totally invincible here, so I won't consider this team completely out of the running.   Remaining - 0%    My bets: Football (W) Volleyball (M/W) Handball (M/W) Basketball (M) Rugby (W)
