  • 1 month later...

France wins the men’s Kayak Team event with Japan second and Great Britain third. Japan’s silver medal is their first ever in the history of the world championships.

Ana Satila became a meme here in Brazil during Paris 2024, with people saying that any time you turned on the TV, she'd be competing. :d

It does seem quite exhausting, as she competes in all four events here, and they happen consecutively. But of course, I imagine that's the athlete's choice.

championship to forget as soon as possible for Italy

only 1 (very disappointing) individual finalist, women almost non existing (and no young talents coming, which is even worse than a random bad year)

those who looked so good in the youth classes in the past years just haven't developed into even decent seniors :hairpull:

Canoe Slalom and Canoe Sprint as a whole have been disastrous this season: no medal in the sprint in the Olympic category on World Champ.,, in slalom no medal at all: de Gennaro out of form, Horn absent. A very big minus. Rowing also bad without a one gold medal in the M4X.

by the way, what a championship for :POL Zwolinska :yikes::bowdown:

A few more years later at this rate and we'll be fighting with Spain and Poland in the Summer Olympic medal table, not France, which is already light years ahead of us thanks to its home games.

:USA have a great woman who does kayak and canoe, Evy Leibfarth...she won bronze in Paris in the C-1 slalom.  Here, she just missed out on the podium in C-1 (4th place, by 0.11 seconds).  She also made the K-1 finals, but finished in 9th.  We'll see how the KX goes tomorrow.  Hope to see more of her in the future!  :)

    • Shades of 1998 with  and  in the same group but this time it's really a terrible draw for the Thistles. I recall Brazil and Scotland played in the same group in 1974 and 1990 too so that's quite a high probabiliy rate.

    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
    • One of the worst possible draw for us. Group really easy but having to face  or  in the Round of 32 is devastating.
