Luge at the Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026

Recommended Posts

Ready for the next massacre in Cortina for Italy. Extremely high temperatures, +3 degrees apparently. It's not like we're in the Maldives.

Mattarella is in Cortina, where tomorrow he will watch the Super G, luge and curling. His presence is usually considered a good luck charm for Italian athletes, so let's hope for the best.

Austria clearly has better sleds that Italy, Egle/Kipp should have been way further from Voetter/Oberhofer with that mistake.

They completely messed up a turn, even doing two waves. Only they know how they could have gone so fast, absurd equipment.
Someone should take a lighter and heat up their skates

Bad sign. Austria and Germany, with the same quality of runs, beat Italy by at least 0.2-0.3 seconds of a point.

Eitberger/Matschina only 0.022 behind with two mistakes

There is no way Voetter/Oberhofer are hanging on in the 2nd run.

Maybe in the second run we'll use a real sledge and not a piece of wood with wheels

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
