Fencing FIE World Championships 2025

Quite a scandal at the medal ceremony

After Vlada refused to take a photo with borodachev (how the fuck he is allowed to compete with his military connections) Katrina Lehis made an annoying face at that.

I don't like Katrina even more now, and considering that Nelli Differt signed the letter from Ukrainian federation, I hope Estonia failed to qualify in team and Nelli will again participate at the Olympics

We don't have any great champions and that's why we get bronze medals or fifth-places. Those are the facts. Womens foil, which has always been our weapon, is hurting the most and now Kiefer is dominating. The men's foli, on the other hand, is very even but we rarely win gold and Marini, our greatest talent, constantly has mistakes in early rounds. If we finish the individual competition with 3 bronze medals, it will be a disaster and another wasted year for us. But of course, this is nothing new because in swimming open water we have Wellbroeck and Johnson, in foil – Kiefer (I'm not at all sure we won't lose to the USA in the team again) and so it goes. Lots of medals, but almost no gold and I still feel unsatisfied.

Why? I think Cristino's bronze is a great result, considering she was losing to Poloziuk all match + she beated Harvey, who is on her top form of the career this season. The only disapointing result should be Errigo's

The problem is that we're no longer winning gold medals and we don't have successors to the great champions of yesteryear. Only Favaretto can be excused, as she recently suffered injuries. Errigo has her best years behind her. Don't make me celebrate a few bronze medals in our favourite army...

Last year we fired Cerioni, who failed the Olympics, but things were good at the 2022/2023 World Champ. Now even that's bad. I don't know where the problem lies, but perhaps it's deeper than just one coach, because things were bad in Tokyo too.

    • It's an interesting question, Norway is certainly expanding their efforts into a number of new sports. So, that cannot help but to peal off a few more natural athletes. I know their training methods are kinda rocking the world in a number of summer endurance sports.  I can't really speak to they dynamics of their development program. Their men's nordic programs largely always seem to be ridiculously deep, overwhelmingly so the last decade or so.

    • But it seems to us that Norway wasn't as strong in Lillehammer 1994 as it was later? And not just in women's events. Generally, until 2000, Norway was much weaker in women's biathlon and women`s cross-country skiing. I remember in the 1990s, Italy's biggest rivals, Belmondo and di Centa, were Russia, when Norway somewhere further back and only in the classic style. Bente Martinsen- Skari, this is their first really strong girl in cross country, just about 2000, just like Liv Grete Skielbreid- Pioree in women`s biathlon at similar times.   Do you think, that is there any hope that thanks to the popularity of Haaland and football in general in Norway in recent years, winter sports such as biathlon or cross-country skiing will lose a little bit, becouse that?

    • This suggestion  @Dnl  made some months ago has also been implemented.   In each club, I have added a "Milano Cortina 2026 Qualification Tracker" record which takes the content from the Qualification by Nation tracker of that NOC.   People who see it can not edit the content, but it will be automatically updated once @Matej will update the record, and if you notice any mistake feel free to report it to Matej or in the record itself.   Club's admins can now edit the name of the section into their own language or change the spelling, I have used "Milano Cortina 2026 Qualification Tracker" for all the clubs. To do so, go inside the section, then click on "Manage Club"-"Edit this database Record" and change the name of the section:     By the way, if you are not a club's admin but you would like to edit things inside the club just let me know and I will give you the rights to do so. There can be more "admins" inside the club with the rights to edit and organize the sections, and that's not a role that require time or commitment.   Let's try to make all the clubs active during MiCo and when the LA28 qualifications will start!
