Italian record, the best way to close an extraordinary edition for the Azzurri :cheer:

Without injury Patta would have been in the top 3 in the 100 meters, so we would have only 1 worse place - 15th.

Congrats to Italy!

Good tournament for :NED, winning 8 events, but definitely lacking in the field events compared to the top 3 countries, making it impossible to finish on the podium.

Some breakdowns, showing that Italy is the deserved winner as the most allround country during these championships. It also shows that the top 3 countries dominated the field events, whereas the track events were much closer.

Really difficult tournament for us. But the event is named "Track and Field".
So one cannot stay in the top league if has "Field" events at the proper level ony.

But even thi squad was fighting to the very end for the final spor against Hungary.

By the way, our score against :HUN was 1:1 yesterday )

Lost in EAA Team Championships, but won Gloden League in volleyball (will see if it is enough to promote to the nations league).

Thank you for noticing. I used the results from the European Athletics website, but I noticed they adjusted the results.

I've updated the table to reflect the final results.

I took some time to compare results from Madrid and Maribor.

:SLO would won 217 points in First Division, so they would beat only :LTU .

Even :BEL would gain only 250 points, so they would stay in elite division just for few points.

So this proves it is quite big difference among divisions, it would probably be better to have groups of 12 teams.

I mean that's how it is designed. Having it be 12 or 16 teams wouldn't make a difference, only for which teams would be living on the bubble.

Right now the bubble teams between Division 1 and 2 are: :GRE:HUN:UKR:FIN:LTU:BEL:SLO:NOR:TUR while a 12 team group would have :POR:SWE:SUI:CZE:GRE:HUN:UKR:BEL as the bubble teams.

    • Yes, she was unlucky, but it could just as easily have happened during some training, like with Gut, etc. Brignone has been essentially injury-free throughout her long career, which is very rare in this sport. It's unfortunate that this happened after her best season ever and just 1 year before the Olympic Games in home, when she just missing of win the Olympic gold medal in her great career. With the gold in Cortina, she would have become a legend of Italian skiing, on par with Tomba. Now she's still the best Italian woman in history, but the miss of Olympic gold will likely haunt her for the rest of her life.
    • It sad to see this season, as I remember, that Fede last year was winning everywhere, when she competed and finished and now we haven't even managed a single podium in the giant slalom, and it'll probably stay that way until the end of the season. Without Fede and Bassino, unfortunately, we're out of good cards in this event. For me Goggia should probably skip the giant slalom at all, becouse she has no chance of a podium and she risks further injuries. If even Goggia finish 8th or 10th? What difference does it make? If she couldn't get a podium finish today with so many DNFs at the top skiers, she probably never do. Della Mea is OK this year, but let's be honest, she's not World Cup podium material. Overall, it's a sad picture, and we have a 0% chance of anything in Cortina unless a miracle happens in Brignone return.   We have two chances for Goggia in DH and SG + maybe a dark horse in Pirovano/Curtoni in SG. That's all. In technical events, we have a 0% chance for medal and that's sad. Our federation also lost Colturi in this situation... In any normal country, the head of such a federation should be dismissed for disciplinary reasons and this case should be investigated by the minister, or even the prime minister, but not in Italy...
    • Mikaela Shiffrin  off the podium today (Edit: Oops...I thought this was slalom, not Giant Slalom.).  Nina Astner  entered the 2nd run in 30th place, but had the best second run, jumping up 18 places to 12th.
    • Maryna Gąsienica-Daniel with a 5th place PB in Semmering GS!
