Cross-Country Skiing at the Nordic Skiing FIS World Championships 2025

Recommended Posts

Been some great cross country races. Let’s hope the rest remain competitive and we don’t have too many meals being won by massive distances.

The British commentators complained at the end as they felt it should still be 15km.

Plus they think Johaug will stay for another year and do the Olympics. Is that likely?

Don't want to be negative, but i slightly hope Johaug doesn't win a gold here, just for dissing the World Cup after Tour de Ski.. :coffee:  And she is one of my favourite skiers..

If you're a commentator and you complained at the end of a race like this, you shouldn't be a commentator...

I remember the older days when Johaug lost almost every finish to Bjorgen and Kowalczyk. She won first in 2011 in Oslo in the 30 km, because Bjoergen and Justyna underestimated her a bit and gave up on her for many seconds.

She (and Ebba) should be very happy that it was the two best sprint finishers among the top-4 (at the moment, Karlsson catched Weng later) who fell, or I am not sure she would have medalled at al.

Going back to earlier times, what do you think Kalla missed to be able to fight in the overall World Cup with the likes of Bjoergen or Kowalczyk? Sometimes it was hard to understand her small consequences throughout the season and in 2008 it seemed that Kalla could be a dominant force for many years, when she won the TDS in just 20 years!

Johaug herself said no. She might still change her opinion of course, but so far she gave no signs in that direction.

    • need to work on the celebrations... or just drop them?   Btw, these jerseys suck and I remember Zambia playing in all white with red numbers. At least they have orange on national flag but still...
    • British Columbia in general and Vancouver in particular are awesome and it’s great more people got to discover it thanks to Vancouver 2010.
    • And of course the British being famous for curmudgeons, there were always plenty of curmudgeons to quote.  Then of course from the opening ceremony and the cycle race on the very first morning it was obviously going to be triumph, so everyone just shut up for a while.
    • Yep, the amount of emergency services I heard at some point was a little extreme (for our little town), so I checked what was going on and saw they were all being called to a specific location. Until then I thought maybe it was part of a parade of trucks and agricultural vehicles that was on it's way from the next town over, decorated with lights and stuff.   Since I knew it was on the parade route, I was sure one of those big vehicles had hit people somehow (there were, besides the many vehicles, also two helicopters on the way, meaning it certainly wasn't about a single victim).   We picked our bikes and went to take a look, absolutely chaos in the area. Never saw so many services combined together, fire trucks from 20km away, ambulance after ambulance came racing by, people frantically trying to make way for them (the roads weren't really closed yet).   While there we heard someone who had been close say that the parade hadn't arrived yet and what seemed to have happened was that a car from the other side came onto the roundabout and simply never turned. "It's a massive drama over there, unbelievable", he said.   Quite quickly rumours started spreading of course, the first one turned out to be true: a middle aged (local) woman was behind the wheel and seems to have become unwell. Local security camera showed the car going at high speed right before the roundabout.   Plenty of rumours going around in terms of who were involved of course, and people keeping each other up to date to see if they know this or that family and such...   Never expected my little town to be big news in the Netherlands, even including some breaking broadcasts, live reporters and everything, damn. By far the biggest thing to happen here in my memory

    • For me, these were very good Olympics, and British sport benefited greatly from them, and is still benefiting. I fear it will be much worse here. Canada also benefited very good on Vancouver 2010 – this is very good see in the medal standings of subsequent Winter Games after 2010 and earlier.
    • Nobody hates Britain more than the British media so… I recall it being quite a pessimistic tone before the London games started.
    • I'm curious what was written before London 2012? Did they attack their own country, or did they just keep quiet?

    • Very true point.  Although I think at this point everyone is just holding their collective breath until the test event.  The NHL isn't going to rage anymore until then because it's not like that would make the arena progress go any quicker
