The issue will be qualification for countries outside the US. There might be a ton of Nigerian diaspora talent in the NFL but they’re not going to be playing in regional qualifiers

 

With or without the NFL, gold was nailed on for the US so all this does is heighten the awareness/celeb factor. 

 

Likely the last time we see it at an Olympics too

Which might make it even more clear to everyone that having this in the Olympics is rather ridiculous. I'd be fine with USA going to the gold with lots of massive wins if at least the best players were there. There are more events where one or two teams dominate proceedings, but having a weaker field to add tension isn't a solution.

I'm curious how the American viewers will take to watching flag football.  We're used to our own tackle version of this.  So, even if NFL players are there, we might still be kinda 'meh' about it.  The last time we even thought about flag football was when we were in school at like age 12.

 

(Are there similar sentiments for those of you in countries where rugby is popular, when you watch rugby sevens?)

Some of the rugby purists don't like it, but the difference is sevens had its own circuit with its own following. American football is lacking greatly in that department.

 

It doesn't help that people see flag football as a stepping stone to tackle rather than a separate format.

yea, my kids played flag football sometimes, it might be a nice appetizer to the NFL season which will start right after this is over, maybe the american team should be made just from the local players, easier then take players from other parts of the country in the middle of training camps, Herbert in QB..... i love the sound of that
