Ledecka to the semi's :cheer:

Despite 5 women in her heat having a faster SB this season.

Upholding the honour of Clan Ledecky which has more Olympic Gold Medals than.any other Slavonic name except Ivanov probably. :p

:ETH Geleta follows his countryman and steps out of it.

Think there is some long-lasting money battle between athletes & Federation.  The men always give up at halfway.

These are exceptions. Just see the gold medals in all big competitions.

Yeah, but while certainly true, East African nations winning a majority of distance medals isn't exactly new :p (like Scandinavian countries are strong in cross-country skiing)

I had nothing to do anyway, so, a breakdown of how many medals they won at the world championships and Olympics in the past 20 years:

2004: 14/21 (last major event without the women's steeplechase)
2005: 17/24
2007: 14/24
2008: 16/24
2009: 17/24
2011: 19/24
2012: 18/24
2013: 19/24
2015: 18/24
2016: 15/24
2017: 14/24
2019: 16/24
2020: 14/24
2022: 19/24
2023: 17/24
2024: 13/24

But then it would make sense to stop earlier instead of holding on in the lead group for so long you gain nothing, yet still spend so much you can not realistically still go do a fall marathon :p

If I didn't have to prepare for my university exams... :p

It looked like at some point that we would be winning gold – the Italian looked great and, according to commentators, he had the best finish of the top runners. In this case, bronze is good, but I hope someone wins gold for us.

I mean, it looked like the chance existed, other than the arguably somewhat biased Italian commentator, I'm not sure someone saw it in the way that he was actually 'on his way to gold' :p

Dutch commentator did single him out as looking very good when there was still a group of around 20 though, sharp eye :d
