Or pretending to.  There's still some people out there pushing the line that Semenya was some kind of pitiful waif, rather than accomplished con artist.

I got reported for racism for saying that.

Some of us got purged from a board for pretty much the same thing.  Said board has not remotely recovered yet.

Yet open antisemitism I allowed on there freely.

There's also a lot of people in between that. I don't necessarily see her as a 'pitiful waif', but certainly neither as an 'accomplished con artist'. It's not unreasonable either way to say it's always been an incredibly difficult situation.

.

Nope, completely disagree.  Semenya made a joke of the event by obviously shirking for 700m then coming through to win.  And also by refusing to attempt any kind of record.  As we see all the time, any kind of well-organized WR attempt drags a whole pile of other athletes through to NRs, PBs etc as well as creating media attention and hype.  No sympathy - the money's in the bank, and that's what was wanted.  :pope:

You can't get away with jogging the last 20m at the US Nationals.

It’s the heats, everyone advances through to the next stage pretty much.

Hmm, that is interesting.  Obviously a lot of lekking* going on.

* Oh yes, there is such a word.

    • For the summary and lowlights of Thailand's preparation in hosting the ongoing Sea Games, I kindly suggest those who are interested to read from this English language article from Thai media outlet, Thai Enquirer: https://www.thaienquirer.com/63469/thailands-sea-games-2025-under-fire-budget-management-and-technical-controversies/
    • It's all hogwash especially in the short attention span generation. Like nobody cares about Free Tibet anymore either. Free Palestine will last a lot longer due to Saudi Arabia becoming a sponsorship force in sports.   Israel is too weak in soccer to qualify from UEFA zone. The only time they qualified was from the Asian zone and they only beat Australia & New Zealand who were complete nobodies in the 1960s. No such luck in the 60 years since.
    • Oh I assure you FIFA dodger a bullet with Israel not qualifying…   But ya that’s kind of the thing, shut up and dribble is a mantra anti LGBT people have used often. I don’t think it’s hypocritical to remind them of their position
    • Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default? Somehow I feel this won't be met with similar backlash when China clamped down on 'Free Tibet' in 2008 OG. Saudi Arabia is more important to global markets than Iran & Egypt
    • Wisła Płock just assumed 1st position after five consecutive draws. Must be first time ever a team on a five match winless streak actually moves up to league top.
    • Well ya, which is why the Egyptian and Iranian teams can shut up and dribble :P
    • The problem is, the World Cup is not a local event. Overall it's another storm in a teacup. LGBT rights in Muslim countries won't change a damn inch becuse of one soccer match in Seattle
