It wasn't great, but women's cycling was just way too small to fill three categories with a serious peloton. Luckily it's a lot better now.

when I raised the question, I forgot that that there was no U23 medals for women just a couple years ago...

Very bad news from the Junior Women's today.  I noticed also there was an Italian from the first chasing group who fell about 100m from the line and was not getting up.

 

 

Swiss cyclist Muriel Furrer is in a "very critical" condition after suffering a serious head injury at the Road and Para-cycling World Championships.

 

The 18-year-old crashed during the junior road race - authorities say they are "extremely concerned" about her condition.

The Italian finally got up and finished the race. Today, the first junior gold for Italy since Ulissi in 2006-2007. Mark Lorenzo Finn won. In recent years, we have had gold medals in the men's U23 category: Battistella in 2019 and Baroncini in 2021. So far, however, these competitors havn`t met expectations. In my opinion, if we don`t have at least 1 Italian group at the WT level, it will be difficult to reach the results beginning of the 21st century. In 2005, when the Pro Tour (now World Tour) was created, Italy had 4 groups in this series: Lampre, Liquigas, Domina Vacanze and Fassa Bortolo. And yet we had very strong groups before: Mapei, Saeco, Mercatone Uno etc. Now we don`t have one

What's worse there is that it took insanely long for anyone to even go there and try to help her....like, nothing happened, at all. She was crying out in pain in the pouring rain and nobody came to help, that was awful. And then someone finally went there....and just picked up her bike to move it away. Come on.

In the case of Claudia Cretti in 2017 it ended with a disability - she started at the Paralympics in Paris.
