Flag Football update:

The men were Eliminated in the round of 16, but have since won two more games and have made it to the 9th-10th placing match, which for a entry ranking of 15 would be a good showing.

The Women were Eliminated by Japan in the QF and will be playing in the 5-8 bracket

For those who are interested, I have been pulling together a calendar of events across the summer Olympic sports (at least the ones where GB are active - sorry any wrestling fans)

I'm also in the process of gathering the details of the elite squads so that we can track the athletes we could see in the mix for qualification when Los Angeles comes around.

It is still a work in progress so if there are any suggestions for additions, just shout out.

Wow, thank's for this, never too early to get excited for LA.

I'm not sure if this is viable, but I wonder if it would be possible to create some kind of google docs which we would all edit with additions as a sort of centralised database before LA.

On a side note,I have my A-Levels coming up so my contributions might be a bit limited until the Summer, but I will still try and contribute when I can.

The draw for the Women's 2027 EuroBasket qualification was completed this week - this is likely to be the critical qualifying route for '28 Olympics. If it follows previous years, a top 6 finish at the 2027 EuroBasket would give GB a ticket to Olympic qualifying tournament.

:GBR will enter the competition in round 1 - the 7 teams who are competing in the World Cup Qualifying Tournaments have a bye to round 2 - and have been drawn against :SUI:NOR and :AUT

:GBR are the highest seed in their group so should be able to safely navigate through to the second round. The first round of matches takes place in November this year followed by reverse matches in early March.

After a pretty disappointing tournament in 2025, hopefully GB can make some progress over the qualifying window and put themselves in strong position to secure a ticket to LA.

when do you think sports start releasing the qualifying criteria? is it done on a sport by sport basis or do the IOC release everything at same time? eager to get to some qualification events next year

I think they start coming in the autumn of this year, a lot of sports will have put their proposals to the IOC and I think it's taking longer than normal because of the change over at the top.

    • The Technical director of the Dutch Olympic Committee has, using his discretionary powers, decided to include them in the team. He cites “extra-ordinary circumstances”, but has not stated what they are. The use of these powers is quite rare. They were used in 2022 to nominate an alpine-skier.
