Oh dang. Didn't realize that existed! Never occurred to me to change the season to 2026 . Well that'll be helpful in the future. Now to figure out where the discrepancies are coming from.

I'm curious as well, I gave up my own attempt because of the discrepancies. Of course I'm mostly interested in the area around Brazil and there is quite good hope for them to end up in the top-30 still.

.

NCAA Championships this weekend.  Always a very high standard - plenty athletes coming straight out of this last year to Top 30 performances in Trondheim this week.

Window for nations ranking points closes down on 23rd of March. What are the remaining competitions were nations can gain those points?

The three remaining World Cups: Oslo next week (20k interval classic + 10k interval freestyle), Tallinn a few days later (freestyle sprint) and the weekend after that the finals in Lahti (freestyle individual + team sprint and a 50k classic). At least in the women's standings Lithuania should definitely be safe inside the top-30 and therefore with a second spot at the Olympics. Realistically only Armenia might pass them and that depends entirely on whether or not Katya Galstyan will do those World Cups.

Lithuanian men are 30th right now, but in the men's field I'm significantly less informed and don't really dare say if there's any danger from behind.

In the women's nations rankings, :CHN China passed :AND Andorra for 20th place (2 quotas).

looks like access to the men's rankings they are generating is temporarily cut off. But this just showed up: https://www.fis-ski.com/inside-fis/general-fis-documents/olympic-winter-games-2026-copy-for-quota-links

It appears to be copied from 2022 and the links don't work yet, but maybe soon.

Which is actually a moot point, since Gina del Rio will probably be Andorra's only athlete anyway. Even if Carola Vila Obiols somehow comes back, which seems unlikely, they'll still easily have two total quotas, that simply can't go wrong anymore :p (there is a 0% chance of them dropping out of the top-30)

Thanks to a 4th place finish by :AND Gina del Rio on Wednesday, Andorra takes back the 20th spot in the nations rankings from :CHN China although Andorra will likely reject their extra quotas anyways.

Some things to keep an eye on heading into the final weekend of qualification:

Men:

  • :USA USA trails :ITA Italy for the 5th spot by 192 points
  • Looks like the final spot (30th) in the rankings will be between :LTU Lithuania and :THA Thailand. Right now, Lithuania leads Thailand by only 15 POINTS! Going to be close

Women:

  • As mentioned above, :AND Andorra and :CHN China will fight for the 20th spot in the rankings. On the FIS website it says they're separated by 146 points but in my calculated rankings, they are separated by just 51 points and I just double checked my work so not sure what's going on there
  • If :GBR Great Britain sends any athletes, then they can threaten :GRE Greece and :ARM Armenia for 29th/30th spot in the rankings

    • Does the CAS have the authority to address from someone who believes the judges made a mistake in a given discipline? Pizzolato's last attempt at Paris 2024, which earned him the bronze medal, was controversial, but what does the CAS have to do with it? Even if the judges made a mistake then, the result won't change and this isn't the only case where someone feels wronged with this in world of sports. Unless, of course, they have some evidence of corruption or something like that
    • If Pizzolato will to return, would it be to the 86 kg category, or the 94 kg category, like Nasar? In 2024, they were both in the 89 kg category, which will no longer be at the Olympics, but in 2021 in Tokyo, Pizzolato won a medal in the 81 kg category.   Of course, it's unclear what's going on with the rape accusations- personally, unfortunately, I don't think he was ever a sweet angel- he was accused of other immoral things also 10 years ago, but gang rape? I find that hard to believe... Besides, Moldova has appealed about his bronze medal from Paris 2024 to the CAS- the verdict was supposed to be in February. Do you know anything about this? Did they have any grounds for this lawsuit at all?
    • Ukraine won 6 gold medals out of 10 in the women's competotion  + 1 silver and 1 bronze. Where do they get these girls from? It's always been a strong country, but they have never dominated like this. I wonder if their training methods would work in another country and if their coaches have any offerts to job from other countries? However, there is a significant decline in women's judo in Ukraine, so maybe they have directed all their resources and money towards wrestling?   In fact, Ukraine dominates Europe as much as Japan does the world- they have the best school in women's wrestling. In 2024, Ukraine only won 1 silver medal at the Paris Olympics? So even domination in Europe doesn't guarantee even 1 gold medal at the Olympics. Although, of course, if Italy for example, can't even win 1 bronze medal at the European Championships, then there's no point in even going to the World Championships...
    • Sablikova started on the road cycling and just almost qualified for Rio 2016. Maybe Lollobrigida would like to join the Italian track team? She has the good character and 2 medals at the Olympics, one in winter and one in summer, would be a legendary achievement, not only in Italy.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martina_Sáblíková
    • One Wiebes is worth more than the all Italian team with Balsamo/Fidanza, etc., that much clear. Even if the Netherlands loses its dominance in the men's sprint, Wiebes will win 2-3 gold medals in other events. Just relax, man.
    • I'm most worried about our women's team in the pursuit – we have a reserve squad, but not advancing to the top 8 is a shame. We recently competed with out 1 team and had not good in 1 round. It doesn't look good. And the Netherlands are already taking Wiebes to the track team and will soon dominate the Madison/Omnium as well. Balsamo and Paternoster haven't made any progress for years and the our women's team at the Olympics has little chance to win a medal. Italy might even win World Championship/European Championship gold in the years after the Olympics, etc., but when the real fight comes, the UK or the USA will always beat us
    • Track cycling is one of the few sports where there is no host nation quota, so  will need to work hard to achieve our quotas.  It's not our best sport, but was happy to see Top 10 results in the Elimination Race for Grant Koontz and Emma Jimenez Palos (who is just 18!).
    • Yes, I saw the same thing you did @clemsonbeav (on both accounts) but I agree it looks pretty stock.
