:POL Poland overtook :UKR Ukraine for the 16th place in the women's standings yesterday. Nobody from these countries starts today so it's Poland that is the last country with 4 quota places confirmed.

16th or 17th makes no difference, does it?

It does for women. 1 basic quota + 2 quota places for 11th-20th place is the same. But the allocation of the remaining quota places ends at 16th place for women as of today, with Poland gaining one more spot while Ukraine none.

Ah, right, the reallocation. Let's see where that will end up eventually, for sure it's still going to go down quite a bit with probably 5-10 spots being handed back.

.

If Italy ends with only 5 spots, it will be terrible for us. We will have to choose between sprint and relay. Even in Beijing we had 6 skiers.

In fact, at this exact point in the qualification system, we only had five quotas in Beijing as well. Then there will be the various reallocations

So what are the chances of a 6 skier? 50%?

There is a problem with this sport in Italy, becouse in the 50 km classic today the best is still the 35-year-old Pellegrino... Where is the rest? Why is Graz so irregular, why was de Fabiani talent wasted? There are many such questions. And the fact that Norway and its dominance among men is destroying this sport is another matter. They are doing the same thing that the Norwegian women used to do under Bjoergen and Johaug domination some years ago and Klaebo has even become an improved version of Bjoergen... Bjoergen has never dominated sprints with such ease. And then you can't be surprised that Russia will say that without them there is no this sport and no serious rivality and many people will believe them: many people in Italy, for example.

Anyone knows how the Poland/Ukraine switch means Brazil dropped a spot in the reallocation ranking and now is 23rd instead of 22nd there? I know, 23 or 22 spots being reallocted doesn't really matter realistically, because both are just not gonna happen, but still.

    • Does the CAS have the authority to address from someone who believes the judges made a mistake in a given discipline? Pizzolato's last attempt at Paris 2024, which earned him the bronze medal, was controversial, but what does the CAS have to do with it? Even if the judges made a mistake then, the result won't change and this isn't the only case where someone feels wronged with this in world of sports. Unless, of course, they have some evidence of corruption or something like that
    • If Pizzolato will to return, would it be to the 86 kg category, or the 94 kg category, like Nasar? In 2024, they were both in the 89 kg category, which will no longer be at the Olympics, but in 2021 in Tokyo, Pizzolato won a medal in the 81 kg category.   Of course, it's unclear what's going on with the rape accusations- personally, unfortunately, I don't think he was ever a sweet angel- he was accused of other immoral things also 10 years ago, but gang rape? I find that hard to believe... Besides, Moldova has appealed about his bronze medal from Paris 2024 to the CAS- the verdict was supposed to be in February. Do you know anything about this? Did they have any grounds for this lawsuit at all?
    • Ukraine won 6 gold medals out of 10 in the women's competotion  + 1 silver and 1 bronze. Where do they get these girls from? It's always been a strong country, but they have never dominated like this. I wonder if their training methods would work in another country and if their coaches have any offerts to job from other countries? However, there is a significant decline in women's judo in Ukraine, so maybe they have directed all their resources and money towards wrestling?   In fact, Ukraine dominates Europe as much as Japan does the world- they have the best school in women's wrestling.
    • Sablikova started on the road cycling and just almost qualified for Rio 2016. Maybe Lollobrigida would like to join the Italian track team? She has the good character and 2 medals at the Olympics, one in winter and one in summer, would be a legendary achievement, not only in Italy.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martina_Sáblíková
    • One Wiebes is worth more than the all Italian team with Balsamo/Fidanza, etc., that much clear. Even if the Netherlands loses its dominance in the men's sprint, Wiebes will win 2-3 gold medals in other events. Just relax, man.
    • I'm most worried about our women's team in the pursuit – we have a reserve squad, but not advancing to the top 8 is a shame. We recently competed with out 1 team and had not good in 1 round. It doesn't look good. And the Netherlands are already taking Wiebes to the track team and will soon dominate the Madison/Omnium as well. Balsamo and Paternoster haven't made any progress for years and the our women's team at the Olympics has little chance to win a medal. Italy might even win World Championship/European Championship gold in the years after the Olympics, etc., but when the real fight comes, the UK or the USA will always beat us
    • Track cycling is one of the few sports where there is no host nation quota, so  will need to work hard to achieve our quotas.  It's not our best sport, but was happy to see Top 10 results in the Elimination Race for Grant Koontz and Emma Jimenez Palos (who is just 18!).
    • Yes, I saw the same thing you did @clemsonbeav (on both accounts) but I agree it looks pretty stock.
    • Also, I just logged back into my account, where it sent me to update my profile, and when I saved that, I got a screen that included a check mark next to 'Registered for the Draw'.  Not sure I totally trust it, but it does at least say so.  (There's nothing specifically referencing Drop 2 or anything...might just be a stock screen.). I'm curious what it would look like if you looked at it @esube.  https://tickets.la28.org/
