Do you count medals at the end of the 5th day of the Games?

That is the calculation made before the Games. This is not cummulative result but only prediction for the next day like xG

And does the general forecast change after these 5 days? (1/3 of the games). I can already see, for example, that we will do worse than in Tokyo.

Predicted number still can be achieved. But it was lower than in Tokyo from the beginning - 17 vs 19.

Of course even these 17 medals are very optimistic during the war. Especially for athletes who had training in Ukraine this summer.

Electricty was absent 4-7 hours in a row. Then - 2 hours of electricity and some new 4-7 hours without light. The temperatures were extremely high - 38 - 40 degrees in the shadow. And no air conditioner could be used without electricity. Plus air-raid alarms could last hours thrughout the night. Thus it was not easy to get full dose of sleeping and recover.

Thus every medal is a miracle.

I replaced the Tokyo gold medals with Paris gold medals up to Day 5, while keeping all the Tokyo gold medals for future events.

This is what the final ranking would look if all remaining events would have the same gold medalists as Tokyo. (Obviously Russia will lose all of those)

1. :CHN  38 (+2)

2. :USA  36 (-3)

3. :JPN  21 (-3)

4. :GBR  19 (-1)

5. :AUS  15 (+1)

5. :FRA  15 (+6)

5. :ROC  15 (-5)

8. :ITA  12 (+3)

9. :GER  10 (-)

10. :KOR  9 (+3)

10. :NED  9 (-1)

12. :CAN  8 (+1)

13. :CUB  7 (-)

14. :BRA  6 (-)

14. :NZL  6 (-)

...

21. :HUN  3 (-2) :(

OK, I bet that all those decades of suffering, :SWE must be quietly happy that :NOR are 0-0-0.  Even :FIJ are in the table.

I think you have overestimated China and the USA. For now, the USA is 9 gold medals behind their previous Games, which would place them closer to 30 than 36. This is a gap that will be hard to make up.

4 days in a row for Ireland winning a medal! Incredible for us given how we so often struggle at Olympics to get podiums!

The two Olympic Games have different schedule.

US gold medals in Tokyo that they lost in Paris (5)

  • Swimming, men's 400m medley
  • Shooting, men's 10m air rifle
  • Swimming, women's 100m breastroke
  • Swimming, men's 800m freestyle
  • Swimming, men's 100m freestyle

US gold medals in Tokyo that they defended in Paris (3)

  • Swimming, men's 4x100m freestyle
  • Fencing, women's individual foil
  • Swimming, women's 1500m freestyle

US gold medals in Paris that they gained compared to Tokyo (2)

  • Swimming, women's 100m butterfly
  • Artistic Gymnastics, women's team

So overall they are 3 gold medals behind Tokyo after 5 days.

She wasn’t a top-tier athlete in that program anymore. She was at the end of her career. I would personally would rather race against Katie. She’s not as competitive as the other athletes,” he said. “It’s probably really unfair to say and not really where I want to go with this but that’s where we are with that.”   Uhlaender: “If I were Canada, I would be concerned in how this coach is representing the Olympic values for his country,” Uhlaender told Fox News Digital. “He hurt a whole field of athletes, all with dreams, and this sends the message that they don’t matter unless they are number one. All athletes matter, and we all deserve to compete fairly, with integrity, and respect. He did not respect anyone in that field. “This is not about my resume or how good the athletes were in the race. This is about the fact that he intentionally manipulated the competition to hurt myself and 13 other countries because he felt it necessary to eliminate all possibility. That is against the spirit of sport and not what the Olympic movement represents.”   Isn't it great when other people's dirty laundry is aired?  /sarcasm     (I was a little surprised to see NPR pick this up, but per this article, Uhlaender preemptively recorded the phone call after receiving a text from Cecchini that said he had 'bad news' for her.)
    • Idea (that I don't want to mess with right now, but someone else can steal the idea): Could feed the docs from LA28 + Paris 2024 through AI and see what it says.  (Would just take downloading them, perhaps merging them for ease of upload, and passing it through.)
    • If you have time would love to see a sport by sport overview of the changes/new sports
    • Slowly going through the documents.   Looks like canoe slalom qualifiers will be a bit different. More kayak cross quotas which will let nations to essentially qualify two kayakers.
    • How about we choose either Rome or Milano  I hate this timeline we have entered of multiple host cities / countries. The football World Cup became ludicrous, we don't need the Olympics to join them. At least not more than they already are.

The FIBA World Cup Qualifier in P.R. is a throwaway tour- nament for Team USA after the Gold Medal Game debacle. This is the perfect environment to test the Young Guns to see who has it, who does not, and who needs more devel- opment. The 2026 FIBA World Cup in Berlin is the tuneup for 2028 in L.A. • I'm also reminded as I know Canadians are painfully aware that if figures hadn't been a part of the 1984 Olympics, then Brian Orser would have won gold.  Hamilton could have finished 4th in the free skate that year and still beat Orser who finished 7th in the figures
    • claimed their 3rd European title after beating 34-27  First title since 2012  got the bronze after beating   34-33   is the best team in the world by far 👏👏👏
