Men's Basketball FIBA Olympic Qualification Tournaments 2024

I can’t see him not playing given the stakes (even if he plays a game 7 in the NBA Finals), and how much he likes to play for his country in international competition, but you’re right.

BTW in no way am I saying that Greece has no chance or anything like that (of course they could win the quota), Ben’s reply was taking about the favourites in each of the tournaments. :d

He is questionable even for game 2 tonight. Every man has it's limit, so does Dončić, it would be superhuman if he would come to play and then he needs to play Olympics too. But even if he plays he's going to play banged up and with this Slovenian roster and these players there's just no chance Greece isn't considered favorites here. Especially being played in Greece. And I'm not saying Slovenia doesn't have a chance but I would put it at least 60-40 Greece even if Luka plays.

Opposite for me (60-40 Slovenia), but we’ll see ;)

What I think we can both agree on is that these teams are quite even (for the most part), so I’m also basing this off of Greece’s recent failures at Olympic qualification in 2016 and 2021.

As a Canadian, I'm rooting for the Bahamas and Egypt. They deserve their turn at the Olympics, this has nothing to do with the group draw.

Those 17 players will start the preparations together, most of them from tomorrow, Balcerowski, Ponitka, Sochan, Sokołowski will arrive a bit later, in meantime, before OQT we will play few friendly matches, against Greece, Brazil, Croatia, New Zeland and Philippines. Before the tournament will began the team will be shortened to 12 players

For OQT or all summer?

i think only for OQT because he is a free agent. If Lithuania qualifies for Olympics he will probably be there

    • Sweden can be expected to reject one male quota as Robin Olgard injured his knee the day after he got his ticket
    • but you certainly bought heavy weapons from USA ,with password of 24h-48h required  anyway hungary is not taking part of this conflict until now
    • Maybe Switzerland, only Amy Baserga and Lea Meier fullfilled the criteria, but maybe we will send a relay if Lena Häcki gets a top 25 Place today. But we have 5 Quotas, so maybe we will reject 1-2
    • I am confused about how the qualifying works for the non-qualified nations (so the top-12 individual athletes). Wikipedia keeps a ranking of them since IBU themselves doesn't, and usually on Wiki these things are quite correct. However, things have been moving around so weirdly in the past few weeks. Like Gaia Brunello and Darcie Morton have been moving in and out of the top-12 with Gaia's points remaining the same, but Darcie's points going from 90 something to 120 something and back....and now she is in again and Gaia is out again. So apparently one can actually also lose points?

    • Here's a comparison relative to 2024 (I removed the new team sports to make it more comparable). This ignores Belarus and Russia.   Largest Increases Relative to 2024 1.  +58 2.  +44 3. +31 4.  +29 4.  +29 6.  +28 7.  +27 8.  +24 9.  +22 10.  +21 10.  +21   Unsurprisingly, the United States is expected to see the largest increase thanks to host quotas. It's not as massive as previous host nations, but that's because they don't need host quotas for most sports. South Africa is looking at a big increase, but only if they accept the water polo quotas this time around.     Largest Decreases Relative to 2024 1.  -135 2.  -43 3.  -38 4.  -33 5.  -31 6.  -29 7.  -28 8.  -26 8.  -26 10.  -23 10.  -23   Again, no surprise to see France topping the list as they no longer benefit from host quotas. Ireland takes heavy losses not only by losing two large team events, but is generally down in most sports. Interestingly, Italy has the same number of large team events, but it's the drop in athletics and rowing which caused it to be so high up in the list.
