And now, italian users, please stop complain about everything , the athletes, the trainers are great in almost every sport, we have the strongest Olympic team ever considering all the disciplines without any doubts, we have qualified both 8 for the First time in history, today the only Little regrets is for Mumolo but iam sure he gave everything he had, one of the lightweight girls is always  ill and she cant train properly like a professional rower must train in last 2 years

Expand

I don't get why we shouldn't complain for what's gone wrong

in this specific case, we might even enjoy the qualification of the 2 "Eights", but let's be honest, they're going to be "cosmetics" at the Games (especially the men, who will be a pain in the ass like in Rio, 7th out of 7 boats)

meanwhile with a better management we might have both men's single and women's LW doubles capable of at least trying and get a medal in Paris

and frankly, I don't like selling 2 modest placings instead of 2 medal candidate boats a "historical success"

and why shouldn't we blame the coaching staff for the 2-year long disaster of the only boat that won Gold at the last Olympic Games?

they insisted on the Olympic Champions well beyond logic when it was clear that they couldn't be anymore as good as they were becuse of the injuries

and last year at the world champs wasted the best LW crew to qualify a chanceless senior double (I guess it wasn't even expected and that disrupted some of their plans)

not to mention wasting as the last wheel of the wagon the men's single, choosing in the end Mumolo for what isn't his natural discipline instead of building a 3-year proper campaign with Di Mauro (7th in Tokyo with no experience among the seniors yet), who's still one of our biggest talents and he's now relegated to an anonymous seat on the men's Eight

why shouldn't we complain about that? only because we will come home likely with no gold but with a 5th/6th and a dead last place in the 2 biggest boats?

meh!? :cheerlieconfused:

Two lightweight Cesarini-Rodini is an example of a team that reached the peak of their form at the perfect time and place + they were very lucky (in the final in Tokyo in LWx2 with a result 0.5 seconds worse they would have been without a medal). Before or since, this team has never reached the final of the World Championship! (in 2019 they won the QO by winning the B final at the World Championships). It was never this crow that could win for any long period of time. They were lucky that Covid postponed the games by 1 year and great applause to them for that. Later I was able to understand that injuries etc. and they weren't even able to get the OQ for the Olympics this year but the fact is that their form was much worse here than at the World Cup in Varese and at the European Championships in Szeged. You can ask about this, just like about the composition of these two.

And Italy? Neutral.

- planned: promotion of W8 and M4.
- in plus: M8,
- in minus: Mumolo and LW2x (I expected 3rd place, but here it was 4th, a huge loss to first 2 places),
- no comment: W2 (their start made no sense here).

My comment: Quantity- it's a plus thanks to 2x 8: M and W but in terms of quality only the M4 from this group can compete for medals.

I feel sorry for Mumolo, because this American came from nowhere. The Italian won against Nor and Gbr, but unfortunately lost to the Romanian. Mumolo started very slowly in each heat and there was not enough time to make up for it in the final. Perhaps he should take a risk and go harder from the beginning? Mumolo has his limitations - he is quite short and thin. He will not be able to exceed a certain level. Gennaro di Mauro has much more potential and perhaps thanks to him the Italian 8 narrowly won against Canada today.

Btw.: Mumolo resigned from the European Championships in Szeged just to prepare for the start in Lucerne. He did everything to get promoted to Paris but he can't beat his physical conditions - next to Zeidler he looks like a younger brother :(

What an awful camera work this entire event :d

Last race didn't even have the finish camera at all, and the others that did had the camera at either a very weird angle or without clearly showing the line

Does anyone knows what happens with the qualification of Serbia m2X, is Piemenov only allowed to qualify one shell and thus resign for the M1x ?

If he resign in the single the quota won at European qualifiers will be put back in game and add another spot in the men’s single

“the quota place will be reallocated to the next highest placed boat from an NOC that has not yet qualified a boat for the Olympics”

That would mean both Hungary and Monaco would qualify in the M1x as Slovenia already took the quota in the W1x and a single NOC can’t take both quota.

I guess we need a topic for :ITA:CAN:POL rowing fans to argue about who is in deeper crisis

Not that we are better off, but at least the two quotas for us at this regatta kind of saved us from having an embarrassingly tiny team like we did in Tokyo.

    • The problem is XD is a fun event, but its essentially a social event, and lags far behind the others both at Grand Slams and Olympics - no quotas of its own, very limited prize money - as the indivisual Olympic tennis has got more and more important, the top players have limited thhier doubles participation to the main M and W D.   a team format, however, gets some fo that BJK/Davis cup magic, and because it'll b enovel, they can REALLY mess around with it - for example, a three set match could consists of MS first set, WS second and, if needed mixed doubles decider - light work load and quick competition. could play three matches a day if needed   Would not be incredibly shocked if BOTH golf and tennis adopted a quickfire 'Olympic' format - Singles, singles, doubles - (In golf it would be 9 hole matchplay with sets replaced with 9 hole matches, and the order men's indi, women's indi, mixed foursome   On Compound, nice to see it but odd too for GB - Ella Gibson is one of the outstanding shooters of her time, but GBR don't seem to have a male compound shooter worth a candle   On voluntary team sports (Flag football, cricket, lacrosse) I smell a rankings heavy approach with continental rep limited to 3 - though they may be real sneaky with cricket and go host (USA), Euro 1(GBR), Oceania 1(Aus), Asia (1)(India) Africa 1(South Africa) and Final Qualifier 1, heavily loaded with Asia and West Indies individual teams, perhaps Ireland and New Zealand for the appearance of balance.   The Iroquois question still unresolved. GBR would be a rankings pick in everything bar men's flag football   Wonder about the Team gymnastics - Super quick fire high peril format maybe of just one gymnast per apparatus, with the floor and vault reserved to the women so each sex provide only 4 scores - would make it feel different to the existing team events, and make USA a less guaranteed gold. Qualifiation by highest score in overall Q in each event - even if that score comes from same athlete in multiple events

    • https://worldboxing.org/ioc-confirms-gender-parity-in-boxing-at-la28-with-seven-weight-classes-for-both-men-and-women/       Well I didn't see this coming but eh world boxing have gotten rid of men's flyweight!!!!! Non Olympics weights are now 50kg, 75kg and 85kg for the men and 48kg, 80kg and 80+kg for the women. I think it is good news that they haven't added womens heavyweight but men's flyweight being gone is a shocker especially for "smaller" nations. In Rio like we had both 49 and 52kg below 56kg but now flyweight is gone completely. I mean it is tricky to have 10 weightclasses and then have only 7 for the Olympics and for both the 10 and the 7 to be evenly spaced out but like im very surprised that its flyweight thats gone and not one of 55,60,65kg. To be honest selfishly from an Irish perspective at least for this cycle I don't hate it but flyweight was one of the most competitive divisions so it being gone will hurt the weaker (well i couldn't make the small joke twice) boxing countries.   Just for context the Paris weights were (M51, M57, M63.5, M71, M80, M92 and M92+ and then W50, W54, W57, W60, W66, W75)
    • results are being posted now dimitris pavlidis of greece 63.55
    • That's why they only offered 750 points to the winner as an initial compromise. If you were the 4th/5th best player in your nation and were not selected due to NOC limits and you cared about points you would be better off competing at a different event at the same time. With a depleted field you'd likely earn more points there anyway.   It was more because ATP/WTA tournaments held at the same time were losing out on players and thus attendance for the tournaments were low.
