I've been wondering why they didn't choose one of the Atlantic coast ports where there would likely be fewer issues with lack of wind. Picking a venue surrounded by mountains does seem to present the possibility of more problems. As a result only three of the classes are going to complete their programmes.

Checking back some of the sailing was located at Meulan near Paris in both 1900 and 1924. The rest was at Le Havre in 1900 and Brest in 1924, so both Atlantic ports.

The NZ commentator is going absolutely nuts about how bad Marseille is for a sailing regatta on TV lol. Saying it's the worst regatta he's been too lol.

You know all those films about the Roman Empire?  How do they get around?  
 

Triremes.  Rowing boats.  Never sailing boats.  

 

So yeah, it’s been known about since around 500BC or so.
