Kristjan Archer crashes out of the tournament in the first round and will finish in 11th place. He was the 2nd highest seed in the tournament based on world ranking but wasn't at his best in the pool matches.

In stark contrast, Julia Caron was undefeated in her pool and moved into the knockout rounds as the 2nd seed and as such was given a bye to the quarter finals where she defeated Anna Zens of Luxembourg. Later today, she'll be up against Israel's Dar Hect in the semi-finals.

Not sure we've picked this up previously, but it looks like Carolina Stutchbury has switched to compete for :USA. As European Silver medalist, it's safe to say she was probably one of the strongest talents in GB Fencing. Hopefully some of the positive results we're seeing in the junior ranks can come up before LA.

European Juniors get underway tomorrow with Men's Epee, Women's Foil and Women's Sabre kicking things off.

Men's Epee:

Tristan Lumineau is the 19th seed

Cador Beautyman is the 37th seed

Fin Bennet is the 74th seed

Cheney Zhu is the 126th (and lowest) seeded fencer.

Lumineau has been drawn in pool 18. He'll face 18th seed :RUS Arkadii Kardava. the rest of his opponents will be lower ranked - 54th, 55th, 90th, 91st and 125th.

Beautyman has been drawn in same pool as top seed :HUN Domonkos Pelle. He'll also face tricky opponent in 36th seed :NOR Julius Edelmann. The rest of the pool are lower ranked opponents - 72nd, 73rd, 108th and 109th seeds.

Bennet has been drawn in pool 2 against 2nd seed :RUS Nikita Gorin. Bennet is the 4th seed in the pool so will have his work cut out for him.

Zhu has been drawn in pool 17. He'll face 17th seed :HUN Bence Balazs but given Zhu is the lowest ranked fencer in competition, he may find it difficult to progress.

The top 94 ranked fencers after the pool round will continue to the elimination rounds. (32 fencers eliminated during pool round)

Women's Foil

Amelie Tsang is the 19th seed

Zoe Wagstaff is the 52nd seed

Megan Elliott is the 53rd seed

Rachel Adams is the 64th seed

Tsang is drawn in pool 8 alongside 8th seed :RUS Irina Zorina but should be able to see of the other lower ranked opponents.

Wagstaff is drawn in pool 2 alongside 2nd seed :RUS Stefania Chasovnikova, 25th seed :HUN Petra Polonyi and 28th seed :ISR Lihy Peer Koren so will definitely have her work cut out.

Likewise, Elliott is drawn in pool 1 against top seed :RUS Milana Levchuk, 26th seed :TUR Alara Atmaca and 27th seed :LAT Polina Kozlova.

Adams is in pool 12 and has been drawn alongside 12th seed :FRA Keren Aye and 15th seed :HUN Zhou Xinyao

66 fencers will progress to the elimination rounds (22 fencers eliminated during the pool round)

Women's Sabre

Hui Xin Sezille is the 20th seed

Keira D-Sallows 28th seed

Maya Sutton is the 35th seed

Ava Davies is the 49th seed

Sezille is the 2nd highest ranked fencer drawn in pool 3 alongside 3rd seed :HUN Emese Domonkos.

D-Sallows is in pool 6 with 6th seed :ROU Amalia Covaliu and 16th seed :HUN Dorottya Csonka.

Sutton is in pool 10 alongside 10th seed :RUS Maria Tretiakova and 13th seed :FRA Rita Robineaux

Davies is in pool 5 with 5th seed :RUS Karina Tallada and 18th seed :UKR Maiia Velychko.

54 fencers progress to elimination rounds (18 fencers eliminated in the pool round)

European Juniors update

I didn't have this on my bingo card, but Tristan Lumineau was the top qualifier from the pool stage winning all of his bouts for the lost of just 12 points.  Cador Beautyman won 4 out of his 6 bouts and advances in a tie for 42nd place. Cheney Zhu performed very well considering he was the lowest ranked fencer in the event. He won 3 out of 6 bouts and advances in a tie for 61st place. Unfortunately, Fin Bennet is eliminated, having only won 2 of his opening 6 bouts resulting in him being ranked in 97th place.

And the good news keeps on coming. This time from the Women's Foil.

Amelie Tsang was the 19th seed but emerges from the pool round in 6th place having won 5 of her 6 bouts. Megan Elliott advances in 45th place having won 3 out of 6 bouts. Zoe Wagstaff is also through having won 2 from 5 of her pool matches - good enough for 55th place so broadly in line with her original seeding.

Rachel Adams missed out on advancing to the elimination rounds, finishing in 70th place having only won 1 bout from 5.

Finally, Women's Sabre:

Hui Xin Sezille went into the competition as the 20th seed and progresses to the elimination round in 23rd place having won 4 of her 6 pool matches. is the 20th seed. Maya Sutton also lived up to her seeding, finishing in a tie for 33rd place with 3 wins from 5. Keira D-Sallows moderately under performed - going in as 28th seed she finished in 39th with 3 wins from 6 - but is still good enough to progress to the eliminations. Ava Davies makes it a full house - advancing to the elimination round in 51st place having won 2 of her opening 6 bouts.

Men's Sabre:

    • Duno. To me the most interesting question is the short term is whether Poilievre survives this or not. It will be tough for him to justify his leadership.
    • Wonder if they'll get a couple more floor crossers to strengthen their majority.
    • In , Mark Carney’s Liberal Party just secured a working majority through a combination of floor crossings and by-elections. Baring something unexpected the Liberals now do not have to face an election until October 2029.   The Liberals currently have 173 seats, and could win a 174th tonight. A majority is 171, but due to one of those seats being the Speaker a working majority is 172 seats.   Edit: the Liberals also won the by-election in Terrebonne (the general election result was vacated by the Supreme Court due to issues in the mail votes, the Liberal candidate who won the by-election had won by a single vote). First majority government in Canada since 2019.
